UPDATE: @shawmainstreets tweets “It’s official: @LaColombeCoffee’s first DC location opens tomorrow, Sat., 02/01/14 at 8:00 AM in Blagden Alley, 924 N Street, NW (Rear)!”

Not sure exactly what time but two separate tipsters (one with very good bona fides) sent word yesterday that the eagerly anticipated La Colombe coffee spot is opening tomorrow (Friday.)

Their website says:

“In our cafes, first and foremost, the COFFEE and the CUSTOMER are the primary focus.

Enter any La Colombe cafe and one immediately notices what is missing – the merchandising and clutter of CDs, coffee mugs, home coffee machines and lunch foods; all items that distract from the coffee experience and slow quality service.”

From MPD:

“On January 24, 2014, officers were patrolling as part of an initiative to combat package thefts in the Third District. While patrolling in the 1000 block of W Street, NW, the officers observed a subject walk up the steps of a residence, take a package, and place the item in the hood area of his sweatshirt. The officers continued to observe the subject as he approached a second residence in the same block. Before the subject could take packages from that residence, the officers made their presence known. The subject attempted to discard the package from his hood, but the officers were in a position to observe this and placed the subject under arrest.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Metropolitan Police Department on (202) 727-9099.”

In late February a new gym is opening on 7th Street by the Shaw metro, located between Derek Brown’s new spots (Mockingbird Hill, Eat the Rich and Southern Efficiency) and the coming soon seafood spot Fishnet.

Solidcore opened their first location in Adams Morgan at 1841 Columbia Road, NW back in November:

“This is the toughest workout you’ve never had. We’re thrilled to introduce DC to Lagree Fitness, which started in LA in 2001 and now there are over 130 studios globally. “The Lagree Fitness Method” uses slow and conrolled full-body movements wtih constant tension to work your muscle fibers to failure, forcing them to rebuild a more sculpted, stronger and [solid] you. The experience is a high-energy, small group training class done on the patented MegaFormer, which is described as a cross between a Pilates reformer and Total Body Gym. You will be amazed by this workout and its results – guaranteed.”

From MPD:

“On Thursday, January 9, 2014, Third District officers were working as part of an initiative to combat the instances of package thefts within the Third District. At approximately 5:00 pm, the officers were in the 900 Block of P Street NW, when they observed two subjects walking East in the 900 Block of P Street, NW. One of the subjects was holding what appeared to be a black box and going through the contents of the box. The officers contacted the subjects and discovered that the box contained five pairs of eye glasses, each inside a plastic sleeve. During the course of the contact, one of the officers canvassed the area for any opened or discarded boxes and located an empty white cardboard box that the officers were able to link to the box being held by one of the subjects. The officers were then able to track the package back to the owner, who was able to confirm that the package in question had been delivered by the US Postal Service at approximately 4:30 pm. One of the subjects was then placed under arrest for Receiving Stolen Property.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to call the Metropolitan Police Department on (202) 727-9099.”

In yesterday’s talk about The Royal coming to 501 Florida Ave, NW, a reader mentioned the new coming soon signage across the street:

In November we learned that the food truck, Rito Loco would be opening up a brick and mortar burrito restaurant in the former Reese’s barbershop space next to Bistro/Kafe Bohem.  You can see their food truck menu here.  While they originally hoped for an April opening, the sign posted now says opening summer 2014. Updates as we get closer.
