Capitol Cider House is nearly here! From their website:
“At Capitol Cider House, we do cider right. No added chemicals or preservatives. Only showcasing producers within 200 miles of the Capitol building. Always gluten free. Not too sweet. More like a fine wine than a popsicle.
All our goods are sourced from within 200 miles of the US Capitol Building. We have a few of our own concoctions and many ciders from Mid-Atlantic producers that are otherwise hard to find in DC. Our menu is always changing, but we’re always keeping it local.
We invite you to visit our brand new production space and tasting room at 3930 Georgia Avenue. Chill out on our patio, play a round of shuffleboard and enjoy a snack while sampling a flight of regional ciders. Kids are welcome, and friendly dogs can hang out in our outside space.”
They should be open in the next week or so but I’ll be updating when I get an exact opening date. A few other things before checking out all the photos of the amazing space. A big patio is coming. There will be food – starting with Empanadas and Rotis (and hot dogs for the kids) from food trucks. There will be 10 ciders on tap, 1 mead, 1 beer plus cans, bottles, wine and some cocktails. Now check out the amazing space:

Many more photos after the jump. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
On July 4th approx 7:45pm I was involved in a hit and run accident at Grant Circle in Petworth. I was riding my bike in the bike lane at the circle however a green Jeep with DC plates sped up and cut me off and hit me with his right rear part of his car. I was thrown off my bike and I injured my hands and knees and my bike was severely damaged. The driver saw the accident and quickly drove away. I’m looking for any witness who would like to help and testify. The police arrived at the scene and recorded the case. Currently investigation is pending. I can be reached at [email protected] and 202-858-8613 (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I’d like to thank the incredibly kind lady who screeched to a halt as she was driving through the intersection of New Hampshire and Gallatin NW on Thursday evening (July 28) at 10:45pm to encourage me to get into her car as we both heard several loud pop sounds that we think were gunshots. (more…)

June is missing from the 5400 block of 8th Street, NW. She’s microchipped. If you spot her please call or text Chris Frasier at 202-679-9737. Thanks.
Ed. Note: At the request of OP, I have removed the details previously posted.
“Dear PoPville,
What do people suggest in terms of alerting police to prostitution in their neighborhood? It seems the women working around Columbia Heights/Petworth are very much controlled and under the influence of drugs and someone else- do we contact police? Do we refer to an organization? Is there outreach available? The amount of men paying for sex in broad daylight in this neighborhood has gotten so common that i wanted to seek suggestions of actions the community can take.”

“Dear PoPville,
Friday night, there was a fire in a fourth-floor apartment at The Swift at Georgia and Randolph (above the Safeway):

The fire department rescued two dogs, who are both doing ok:

Two apartments were water damaged, according to building management.
But the real reason I’m emailing is to warn other residents and prospective renters: although an apartment was actually on fire, the fire alarms didn’t go off in the apartments on the floor above or floor below (fifth floor or third floor). (more…)

Alright, alright, alright – it’s been a minute since we had some interesting scuttlebutt so wait no longer. Word on the street is that a Middle Eastern restaurant with belly dancing is coming to the old Walters space (RIP Blue Banana) in between DC Reynolds and Looking Glass Lounge. And south of DC Reynolds, I hear an Ethiopian restaurant is coming with possibly a lounge on the second floor. STAY TUNED.
