Back in December we shared some mouth watering Scuttlebutt that the folks from Bloomingdale’s Showtime Bar, across the street from Boundary Stone on Rhode Island Ave., had plans to open up a second spot in Brightwood Park on Georgia Ave (photo above.) [Showtime opened in Bloomingdale back in 2013 and is perennially placed on all the ‘best of’ lists around town.] A week ago I reported that Neptune Room was coming to 5405 Georgia Avenue, NW and because the liquor license placard listed the prolific Andrew Kline as attorney, I suspected this might be the rumored Showtime spot. And now a local food blog confirms it is indeed the Showtime folks: “Team Showtime confirmed”.

Thanks to Andy for sending. For those not familiar with Little Havana:

“Located at 3704 14th Street NW, just a few doors down from Solis’ celebrated Mezcalero Cocina Mexicana, Little Havana will serve Cubano cuisine-Cuban food inspired by the entirety of Latin America. The menu will include soups, sandwiches, pastries, Cuban coffee, and medium-sized entrees.”

Back in February we first learned about Ice N Slice coming to Old Lawrence II space. A few more details have emerged from their liquor license placard says:

“New Class “D” American restaurant that will serve pizza, and hot and cold sandwiches. The restaurant will have 25 seats and a Total Occupancy Load of 35. The licensee is requesting a Sidewalk Café with 30 seats.”

Updates as they get closer to opening.

From Bonstra Haresign Architects:

“3619 Georgia Avenue, NW is a six-story, 27 unit condominium structure with ground floor retail. The project provides many opportunities to explore the larger urban goals for the up-and-coming Petworth neighborhood while advancing the revitalization of Georgia Avenue’s main retail thoroughfare . The project takes advantage of the multimodal transportation within the immediate vicinity of the site and the pedestrian friendly streetscape. This design is a fresh approach to building in Petworth – a beacon, recognizable from a distance, showcasing a unique design rising above the trees and traffic of Georgia Avenue.”

The liquor license placard for Neptune Room says:

“A new Retailer’s Class C Tavern. Seating capacity of 30 inside. Total Occupancy Load of 96. The License will include an Entertainment Endorsement for the inside of the premises only.”

The attorney listed on the placard is the prolific Andrew Kline who is usually involved with significant projects. Could this be related to the scuttlebutt about a 2nd bar from the owners of Showtime in Bloomingdale? Either way, STAY TUNED.

“Dear PoPville,

It looks like the building that houses Qualia is on the market. The listing makes it sound like tenants won’t be sticking around.”

From Qualia Coffee’s owner Joel Finkelstein:

“Our lease is expiring near the end of 2019 and I have chosen not to renew it. We have been in business in that location for just over nine years now, the past four continuously. As anyone who has visited Qualia on a busy day may attest, the physical space simply is not equipped to handle the level of traffic we are now seeing. (more…)
