“Dear PoPville,

Has anyone contacted you about clothing donations for Hurricane Harvey victims? I would love to donate some gently used clothing to the folks down in Texas but wasn’t quite sure who/where was accepting.”

From an email:

“Join us for an uplifting evening of DC talent at the Colony Club this Friday, September 8 at 9 pm (doors at 8:30). Attendees are encouraged to donate anything they can; Colony Club will contribute 10% of bar sales to audience donations. Donations will go to Houston-based organizations that center women, children, LGBTQ+ resources, residents experiencing homelessness, people of color, and displaced immigrant communities for a #JustHarveyRecovery. “Dear PoPville,

I am a resident in Park View and bought into the neighborhood a little over a year ago. I live next to a house that typically is rented to Section 8 Housing (Housing Voucher Program). The landlord is basically a slumlord and does not maintain the upkeep on the house. It is so bad, last month the tenants had a pipe burst above the kitchen and the ceiling fell in. Fire department came and shut off water and electricity and Red Cross came and provided emergency move for tenants (12 people living in the house). (more…)

Thanks to a reader for sending from Princeton Pl, NW last night. Can anyone identify? If so please let me know ASAP so I can let OP know if they can climb down from the tree or not.

If you spot a hawk or any other bird of prey or any interesting wildlife around town, lunching or otherwise, and get a good photo please send in an email where you spotted it to [email protected] and I’ll add it to the queue. Hawks around Town is made possible by a generous grant from the Ben and Sylvia Gardner foundation.

“Here is the story I wrote to my rescue group:

My CityDogs alum, Watson, paid his good luck forward today.

As Watson and I were coming home from a long, hot morning walk, Watson started barking out of nowhere. Watson is mostly silent, so it was weird. It was especially weird because it was a “hey there is a dog” bark, but we were walking past an abandoned building, nothing and nobody in sight.

Then I see a small gym looking bag. I had already seen it, but my neighborhood isn’t the cleanest and stuff like that is always getting left around. Then the bag started shivering.

Inside was a little doxie dog. Left on the side of the building like a piece of trash. Just with some shitty milk bones and no water, in direct sunlight. If it hadn’t been for Watson, I would have walked right past that black bag and who knows would have happened to the pup. I called 911 and animal control, who took the little pup in. (more…)
