“I’m the partner / operator at the newly opened Capa Tosta located at 2737 Sherman Ave NW. My family and I immigrated to the DC area from Napoli, Italy 30 years ago. We’ve been working at restaurants in the area ever since. We’re so excited to finally strike out on our own. My parents, both lifetime chefs and bakers, have come out of retirement to bring family recipes to this neighborhood restaurant. We’ve coupled authentic dishes with innovative cocktails.”

Bravo Bar Updates

“The new owners reopened Bravo Bar (under the same name but new management) with some building renovations/modifications to the space. Bravo Bar opened in June as a hookah bar and will keep the same menu options including the hotdog, beer and shot deal and BOGO drink specials at $7 but will add on Ethiopian cuisine.” (more…)

Sankofa Café posts liquor license placard

The placard for Sankofa says:

“A new Retailer’s Class C Tavern with a seating capacity of 83 and Total Occupancy Load of 136. Summer Garden with 53 seats.”

For those not familiar: “Since 1998, Sankofa has been a cultural center, bookstore and cafe devoted to people of African descent”

Ed. Note: Sankofa also applied for a liquor license back in 2011. Not sure if that went ever went through or not.

“Chef Skip specializes in fried seafood and is known for the unique touch of an edible flower and a side of Chef Skip’s house sauce.”

From DC Fire and EMS: “Update Working Fire 3500 block Ga. Ave NW. aggressive interior firefighting by #DCsBravest knocked down bulk of fire & limited extension in adjacent building. Continue to open up & hit hotspots. No injuries reported.”

From AlertDC: “DCFEMS reports the 3400-3500 block of Georgia Avenue NW, between Otis Place and Morton Street NW, will be closed until further notice due to fire activity. Please avoid the area and use an alternate route.” (more…)
