From a press release:

Urban Garden Brewing will open the doors to its first permanent home, Urban Garden Brewhouse, on Friday, June 19, 2026, with a Juneteenth grand opening celebration in Shaw. Founded by brewer, hospitality professional, and native Washingtonian Eamoni Collier, Urban Garden Brewing is recognized as D.C.’s first Black woman-owned brewery. The Juneteenth opening marks a major milestone for the company and a meaningful return to the former Right Proper Brewing space, where Collier spent eight years working earlier in her career.

The celebration begins at 1 PM with an official ribbon cutting, followed by a full day of beer, live Go-Go music by N2L Band, arcade games, and family-friendly programming. Opening weekend will continue on Saturday, June 20, with a brunch party at Urban Garden Brewhouse. (more…)

“Officer, I’d like to report a murder in AU Park.

The hawk flew off with the body of what must have been a goldfinch. On closer examination, I think the deceased was a northern flicker.”

If you spot a hawk, any interesting wildlife or celebrity skateboarder Tony Hawk, and get a good photo please send in an email where you spotted them to [email protected]. Thanks! Hawks around Town is made possible by a generous grant from the Ben and Sylvia Gardner foundation.

“Dear PoPville,

The house across the street from the eastern market metro plaza, at the corner of 7th and D St SE, is for sale. It was listed a couple weeks ago and, as noted in the listing description, the property features a koi pond. When the house was put on the market, the pond was full of fish. I’ve noticed the water level in the pond receding a lot over the past week, but the fish have still been swimming around. Yesterday it seemed to be really really low, but then today as I was walking past I notice the water was back up! That said, all of the fish were dead and floating on top of the water!!!

I ended up emailing the listing agent but in hindsight I wish I’d thought to do that a few days ago when I first noticed the pond water level receding and all the algae and gunk!!”
