“Tthe new Amazon Fresh grocery store in Washington, D.C. will open to the public on Thursday, July 22 at 7 a.m. The new Logan Circle store is the second Amazon Fresh store to open in the greater Washington, D.C. area and the first store in the region to use Just Walk Out technology, which offers customers the convenience of skipping the checkout line.
Our Just Walk Out technology enables customers to come into the store, grab what they want, and just walk out. Upon entering the store, all customers have to do is scan the QR code in their Amazon app. Customers can then put their phone away and shop like normal. Anything they take off the shelf is automatically added to their virtual cart, and anything they put back on the shelf comes out of their virtual cart. “At the groundbreaking for the new Whitman-Walker health care facility, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that the new full-service library in Congress Heights will be built on Parcel 16 on the St. Elizabeths East campus. The library will replace the existing Parklands-Turner Library.
“We look forward to delivering a state-of-the-art Congress Heights Library to replace one of DC’s smallest, yet busiest libraries,” said Mayor Bowser. “The St. Elizabeths East campus is transforming into a parcel of opportunity – a place for Ward 8 residents to work, live, and now learn.”
The new larger library in Congress Heights supports the Library’s Facilities Master Plan that guides the next ten years of planning for library buildings across the city. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I am writing to report a really scary incident that happened to me on the Capital Crescent Trail.
I was biking last night around 9pm on the trail toward Georgetown and it was dark outside (I usually don’t bike this trail that late but today I happened to start my ride later and I found myself in the dark). I was actually feeling really good because I was going faster than I normally go and I was actively thinking how proud of myself I was. All of a sudden – the Key bridge by the entrance of the trail in sight – a rabbit jumps out in front of me. I quickly dodge it but the quick motion causes my chain to come off. I am kinda laughing at myself at how foolish I was to almost be taken out by a rabbit- when I notice two men approaching me and shouting drunkenly in the dark (coming from Georgetown). Living in dc for 5 years I (sadly) am pretty used to this and so I ignore them and put my chain back on. Then I notice they are sprinting towards me (more…)

A few readers reported to me from 14th and V St, NW hearing: “several loud gun shots at approximately 12:45am.”
MPD reports to me via email: “At approximately 12:40 am, MPD responded to the 1400 block of V Street, NW, for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, members located an adult male victim, seated in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound, at the listed location. The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. This case remains under active investigation at this time.”
