Charlotte sends this morning from 16th and Potomac Ave, SE.
It had been 47 days since our last stolen wheels report.

This just came across the Hill East listserv:
“A man was observed chopping down a neighborhood tree this morning with a full sized axe.
When I asked him to stop from my 2nd floor porch he ran at my building threatening me and my dogs with the axe.
He has been outside my building watching us ever since and followed one of the other residents from the building to his uber, where he threatened that person, telling him that he knew where we lived.
For the next hour he kept throwing a bike into traffic on 17th st, trying to cause an accident.
Police were contacted, did a drive by, and then did nothing else. (more…)

Thanks to Harrison for sending: “Woke up to loud bang at 6am, several police/FBI (I think) agents in full tactical gear raiding a house across the street. Arrested several people. Pictures aren’t the best quality given how dark it was. No idea what this was actually for. Hill East South of Potomac Ave.” (more…)

From the Neighborhood Restaurant Group:
“Shelter will be one of two bars in the 12,500 SF space (the other, of course, being Show of Hands). It will have many of the key design elements that one would expect from a Greg Engert beer bar: a large number of taps (50 to be exact), a temperature-controlled system, rigorous line cleaning, and extensive glassware – all important elements that ensure the beers we’re serving taste exactly as they would if the guest were to enjoy them at the brewery from which they came. With near frenetic-rotation, Greg plans to pour close to 1,000 different beers annually on draft. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I fairly recently had the super-shitty experience of being a random victim of shots fired in DC — for me, it was having a bullet come through my (glass) back door, shattered the door, ricochet around my dining room, and land 2-3 feet from my dog’s bed. I don’t know how to put into words how terrifying it was to come home from work to find a bullet in my dining room. I shouldn’t have to. And I shouldn’t have to lie awake at night playing out the alternate scenarios for that bullet in my house. (more…)

Ed. Note: Wishing Adam a speedy recovery both emotionally and physically.
From Adam’s very upsetting Facebook posting:
“Saturday afternoon I was violently assaulted, beaten unconscious, and robbed in NE DC. Several people came to my aid after the incident, and I was rushed to Howard University Hospital, where I received excellent care. I am posting this is a general notice to friends and family, as I am currently without a phone or laptop (or ID or bank cards), as I have been for more than 48 hours.
The attack occurred while I was taking a few moments to enjoy some peace and quiet on the wooden pedestrian bridge that connects Kingman and Heritage Islands to the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail and the new “The Fields” complex of sport and recreation facilities adjacent to RFK stadium. I had stopped on the bridge to observe a crane in the water and to reflect for a few moments before heading off for some errands during the remainder of Saturday afternoon.
The perpetrator came up from behind me and knocked me down with a hard sucker punch to the side of my face, and he then jumped on top of me and continued his ruthless assault on my face and body. I honestly don’t remember much after that because I was beaten unconscious. (more…)
