noma circulator

From DC Circulator:

“Last year, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) conducted the DC Circulator Transit Development Plan Update. During this study the NoMA, “North of Massachusetts Avenue,” area was identified as a top neighborhood for future DC Circulator service.

DDOT created an online comment form to collect feedback on preferred potential NoMa Circulator routes. The comment form will present any NoMa resident, employer, employee and/or visitor with the opportunity to participate in focus-groups scheduled for December 2015. At each focus group, DDOT staff will present potential route options and ask attendees for their thoughts and opinions about the potential service.

gun
gun found in Petworth back in 2008

After this morning’s report of three guns found in a grill – a reader reports:

“my neighbor found one in hers in noma about a month ago. cops were very proud they “recovered” it. Tweeted it. Um, no, she did and called y’all. I was pushing my 1 yo in a stroller and she called me over to confirm that’s what it was. Then we decided to move out of DC.”

stolen bikes
Photo by PoPville flickr user Caroline Angelo

“Dear PoPville,

When walking home from work last Thursday, I came to the intersection of First and M NE, right in front of Harris Teeter, at about 5:15 PM. A teenager had just hopped on a bike and ridden to the bike lane on the other side of the street from Harris Teeter, and he was looking back at his friend who was still at the bike rack. I didn’t think too hard about this normal behavior but then I noticed that he was too big for the bike, and the way he was watching his friend struggle at the rack was kind of strange.

I crossed onto M street and was walking along near the metro entrance and the two guys then came biking along in the bike lane on the other side of the street. They stopped across from me near the entrance to the bike trail, and one guy jumped off the bike and I saw him pull bolt cutters from the leg of his pants/waistband and put them into his backpack. The other guy had gotten off his bike and was looking at it, and I realized that odds are I’m watching a bike robbery in progress. Bolt cutters into the backpack, they hopped on the bikes and kept riding, turning right/south onto 3rd St.

I snapped a couple pictures of them- one of them had some distinct clothing/accessories. If your bike was stolen on Thursday from the rack outside Harris Teeter in NoMa, please reach out and I will give you the pictures to give to the police!”

rei

Well this sounds pretty great – thanks to a reader for passing on from REI and Wunder Garten:

Saturday, October 17, 2015 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM REI Community Space at Wunder Garten: 150 M St. NE

What the heck is the REI Thingamajig? It’s a community gear swap in a beer garden with live music. Yes, that’s right: you can buy/sell/barter/trade used gear with other outdoor lovers while you listen to live Appalachian music and sip on craft beer in an outdoor setting. Oh, and the music is produced by Living Classrooms- our friends behind the Kingman Island Bluegrass and Folk Festival. That means that the bands will be killer AND a portion of the entry price goes to support their amazing work providing supplemental environmental education to DCPS students. Sound awesome? We think so too.

$7 gets you in the door ($2 from each attendee going to support Living Classrooms).

The Lineup: Hollertown, Big Chimney, Jonny Grave

The first 50 people in the door with used gear to sell get a ticket for a free beer.

All people bringing gear to sell will get table space to merchandise their wares.

REI will NOT be selling used gear – this event is a platform for the outdoor community to sell items that they’re no longer using. You know that old tent in the back of your closet? Or that jacket that doesn’t fit right so you never wear it? Bring it and sell it.

All sales are person to person. REI will not be running a cash register. Bring cash to buy gear if you’re shopping, and cash to make change if you’re selling.

This is a swap for outdoor gear with some restrictions. No guns, knives, hatchets, or anything that could be construed as a weapon. No motors – human powered transport items only. No Life-protecting technical rock climbing equipment (ropes, hardware, protection, helmets). Think tents, jackets, pants, flashlights, stoves, etc. Bikes are ok. Items should be in decent shape and clean. Please tag your items for sale with a price ahead of time. REI reserves the right to review and refuse items for sale.

If you want your old gear to serve the community, consider donating the proceeds from the sale of your gear to Living Classrooms! More on their efforts at www.livingclassrooms.org.

Let us know if you have questions at [email protected], and we’ll see you at the Thingamajig!”

15 K Street, NE

Interesting development at the former Venus Lounge space on K Street just off North Capitol – XO is coming. The liquor license placard posted out front says:

“A Tavern serving American cuisine with a seating capacity of 320 and total occupancy load of 320. Requesting an entertainment endorsement to include dancing and cover charge and summer garden with 60 seats.”

Another spot called XO Restaurant and Lounge was supposed to be coming next door to Post Pub on L Street, NW. Not sure if they’re related. Updates when they get closer to opening.
