Red Bear Brewing coming to Uline Arena next to REI Flagship in NoMa!!

“Exciting news: NoMa will be getting a brewery in 2018! Red Bear Brewing will establish its first location, a 100-150-seat taproom, in the ground-floor retail space at Uline Arena next to the REI flagship store. The brewery, which expects to open its doors late next summer, was founded by three fellows from Washington State who now call the Washington, D.C., area home (one of them even lives in NoMa).”

BISNOW reported:

“The brewery will occupy the retail space on the M Street side of the Uline Arena next to the entrance to the REI and La Colombe Coffee. It will feature a 150-to-200-person taproom and about 15 seats in an outdoor patio, Raspet said.”

Red Bear Brewing’s Facebook says:

“Craft Beer created as a fusion of both Washingtons. Bringing the Pacific Northwest styles to Washington DC.”

Brief Assembly., “An untraditional holiday retail market experience”, near Union Market. Kick Off Party Tuesday Night

“I wanted to make sure you were aware of this holiday pop up shop, Brief Assembly., that opened in the Union Market district on the corner of 4th and Neal. It launched this past weekend and runs through Dec 23, and there is an opening party this Tuesday evening from 6-9pm. The shop was organized by two DC-based designers, Carolyn Misterek and Mallory Shelter. It features products from select and independent designers from across the country. It is a real cool shop, and offers people a different place to shop during this holiday season.

A liquor license placard has been posted for Shouk in Union Market:

“A new casual, quick-service restaurant, serving 100% vegetarian Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food. Seating capacity of 32 inside. Total Occupancy Load of 32. Sidewalk Café
with 16 seats. No entertainment, performances or dancing.”

Shouk is “expected to open in early 2018 in The Edison at Union Market District.”

Proposed Names for NoMa’s First Park are: Swampoodle Park, Old City Corner, and 3rd and L Park – Vote for you Favorite

“NoMa’s first park is under construction at 3rd and L streets NE, and 123 submissions from hundreds of community members have been narrowed to three final names. Please vote! The proposed names are: Swampoodle Park, Old City Corner, and 3rd and L Park. The first two were popular in the community submission process this summer; the latter has been the working name throughout the park’s development and was also suggested in the community submission process. Please view signage mock-ups with each name and take the survey here. The final contender will be recommended to the DC Council and the Mayor, who will make the ultimate decision.

The park at 3rd and L is an 8,000-square-foot space that will include plantings and gathering spaces; a vertical play structure designed for children ages 5 and up; and a space for dogs to run and play, complete with a dog agility ramp. It is built on the first parcel purchased by the NoMa Parks Foundation, which held multiple community meetings and received input from the public for two years to design the space to meet the neighborhood’s needs. It’ll be in NoMa until 12/24 until it finds a new home for Spring.”

O – Ku Asian restaurant coming to NoMa

The liquor license placard for O-Ku says:

“New Restaurant, serving authentic Asian cuisine. Total Occupancy Load is 299 with seating for 175. Summer Garden with 49 seats.”

Anyone know if they’re related to the O-Ku from Charleston, Atlanta and Charlotte? Updates when more is known.

Update from O-Ku’s PR:

“O-Ku is a new Japanese restaurant with an emphasis on sushi that will open near Union Market at 1274 5th St. NE in spring 2018. Owned and operated by The Indigo Road, O-Ku also has locations in Atlanta, Charleston and Charlotte but is far from the typical restaurant chain. Each O-Ku location has different chefs, menus, and décor. Charleston-based architect David Thompson will design the space. The DC location will feature 120 seats downstairs with an upstairs cocktail lounge and rooftop with outdoor seating and its menu will include items cooked over Robata grills and traditional Binchotan charcoal as well as a large selection of sushi and a variety of non-traditional Japanese dishes.

O-Ku DC is projected to open in April 2018.”
