Awesome news from the NoMa Parks Foundation:

“In 2012, the NoMa Public Realm Design Plan envisioned “art parks” at the four points in the neighborhood where roads pass beneath railroad tracks. In 2014, an international design competition for the L and M street NE underpasses resulted in 248 design entries from teams in 14 different countries. The 10 finalist entries were presented to the NoMa community for input on aesthetic concepts and functionality, resulting in more than 370 public comments on the designs. In 2015, the NoMa Parks Foundation named Thurlow Small Architecture + NIO architecten’s installation Rain as the winning design for M Street, and Future Cities Lab’s installation Lightweave as the winning design for L Street.

Now, after years of planning, fabrication, and hard work, the NPF and the NoMa BID are pleased to announce that all is set to begin the installation of the L and M street NE underpass art parks. Below are some important details about construction work and disruptions to pedestrian and cyclist movement along these spaces over the next couple of months.

Well, we don’t have Union Station to kick around anymore. UNIQLO was a harbinger indeed.

Holy smokes, thanks to Michael for sending:

“Was just checking out Union Station’s website randomly for store hours and saw a ton of pretty great things listed as “coming soon” including Blue Bottle, Chick-Fil-A, Magnolia, and Warby Parker.”

And don’t sleep on the sale at The Body Shop!!

Yesterday the X2 Bus tweeted:

“looks like nine west and art of shaving are closed at union station. probably 2,000 square feet of retail here.”

Presumably the Warby Parker will take much of that space. STAY TUNED.

Ed. Note: Blue Bottle Coffee also has plans for Logan Circle[?], The Wharf and Union Market and have already opened in Georgetown.

Damn it. Thanks to Capitol Phil for sending:

“Remember this? Landmark Theatres no longer coming here per NoMa BID rep at ANC6C Parks & Events Committee mtg last night.”

Update from NoMa BID:

“To clarify: We don’t have confirmed information as to the theater’s status, either way. The comment at last night’s mtg was speculative & made in the context of a discussion about where @NoMaParksDC’s NoMa Meander (http://nomaparks.org/noma-meander ) crosses Patterson & goes north.”

Back in March Bisnow reported:

“Douglas Development has acquired the St. Phillips Baptist Church in NoMa with plans to turn the building into a synagogue.

The building, at 1001 North Capitol St. NE, sits next to the John and Jill Ker Conway Residences, an architecturally striking building that recently delivered with 124 micro-units for homeless and disabled veterans.

The Bruery Store posted yesterday:

“The time has come! We’re excited to announce that The Bruery Store at Union Market will open its doors tomorrow, December 21, for pickups of Black Tuesday (2017) bottles that were purchased in October as part of our limited public release!
—-
During our first few weeks of soft opening to close out the month of December, new beers and merchandise will be available as soon as tomorrow. Even more beer is on the way, including our latest releases from Offshoot Beer Co., Hold My Beer (hazy IPA) and Watch This (hazy TIPA), which we anticipate to arrive next week. (more…)
