The liquor license placard for ‘Never Looked Better’ says:

“1230 9th Street, N.W., Basement

STAY TUNED.

5th and K St, NW

Thanks to Daniel and Sherri for the good sleuthing on this tip: “Bartaco is filling the old Busboys and Poets space in Mount Vernon Square.” The Edens website now lists a Bartaco in the CityVista retail. Bartaco’s website says:

“bartaco is inspired by the beach culture of brazil, uruguay and southern california. we are upscale street food with a coastal vibe in a relaxed environment. we are freshly-squeezed juices, specialty cocktails and beer out of a bottle. bartaco evokes a visit to a stylish beach resort and creates an unforgettable experience.” (more…)

Back in December we shared the news that Baan Thai would be closing their super popular Logan Circle location. However, they’d be opening somewhere else and now I hear from a very good source, 99% accuracy rating, that new space will be in Mount Vernon Triangle. Back in April of last year I confirmed some scuttlebutt that Alba Osteria had closed at 425 I Street, NW. If all goes well I believe Baan Siam could be taking over the space/opening as soon as early spring. Fingers crossed and STAY TUNED for confirmation.

5th and K Street, NW

Thanks to Phil for sending: “New signage up at what used to be Capital City Liquors on corner of 5th and K. Still looks a few weeks away from opening. Same owners as folks who own Eye Street Liquors on I.” (more…)

From a press release:

“Today, Washington, D.C.-based restaurateur Antonio Matarazzo and chef Matteo Venini announce the expansion of their modern, fast-casual pizza concept, Stellina Pizzeria, to 508 K Street NW in summer 2020. More imminently, the duo will bring a traditional Italian pasticceria, Annaré, inside Union Market on December 16.

“Dear PoPville,

A friend of mine who is a musical conductor had his car broken into last night and lost a tan canvas-y backpack containing a bundle of musical scores for a concert he is leading this weekend. The break-in was around 9th and M Street, NW and I have to believe that whoever nabbed this pack was quickly disappointed with the merely musical offerings and disposed of the contents (perhaps with the pack, perhaps loose in order to keep the pack). It would be amazing if someone happened to find these manuscripts, some of which are precious and difficult to replace, and all of which have personal scribblings on them that make them far more useful to this conductor than any on-line replacement score could ever be.”

If someone happens to find them please email [email protected] and I’ll connect you with OP.

490 L Street, NW

Thanks to Phil for sending around 11:30am:

“Was shopping in Safeway when the group came in with bullhorns and drums, streaming down the aisles! Saw 50 until we left and saw hundreds more waiting to file in!!! At least 200 if not 300.” (more…)

504 K Street, NW

Thanks to Jake for sending. Back in May we learned:

“The ANC 6E agenda notes that a new 7-11 wants to have an unenclosed sidewalk cafe — coming to the southwest corner of 5th and K. I think that’s two storefronts down from Capital City Wine on the corner, which recently closed.”

Stay tuned for an opening date.
