Sorry for all the Logan Circle options lately but I know there are those who work at lower paying jobs and could possibly take advantage of this great location. It is located on R St, NW between 14th and 15th:

“Dear PoP,

I thought you might like to know that I strolled by the BBQ place at 14th and S St, NW and they were open for the first time tonight [Friday]. The food looked pretty good (I didn’t try it, though, as I had already eaten) and they had Bell’s Two Hearted on tap – a personal favorite.”

Last Nov. we had an update on the new venture, Standard, which soft opened this weekend in the old, old Garden District space at the north east corner of 14th and S St, NW. At the time people were very optimistic. Based on the crowds (and smiles) I saw this Sunday afternoon – I’d say expectations were met. I stopped by last week to take a few photos of the inside but as you can see – the real appeal here is the amazing outdoor space. The beer options look good as does the bbq – but with weather like we had this weekend, this could be one of the best people watching spots in the city. Anyone happen to stop by this weekend?

After the jump lots more photos including the menu. (more…)

Back in July we learned that the folks from nearby Masa 14 would be opening up a new Taqueria here at 1819 14th St, NW next to the Black Cat:

“New restaurant/Taqueria with entertainment serving Mexican cuisine. Entertainment to include acoustic bands, Mexican style music. Restaurant will have Summer Garden with 99 seats and a Sidewalk Café with14 seats. Total occupancy load is 274.”

Wow, I didn’t realize it would popping up. So far so good I think. You think the pop up will look ok?

This listing stirred a discussion among commenters to the original Good Deal or Not (GDoN) post regarding whether DC real estate prices are swelling to bubble proportions. Elmer Fudd Gantry pondered, “The DC housing market may be overpriced, but I guarantee someone will shell out at least $850,000 for that location and a rental unit. I’m not saying it’s right, but that’s the way it is.” The Purchaser ultimately paid a net of $830,000., so not far off.

“Dear PoP,

Thought you’d like to know that the Garden District updated their Facebook page with the following:

“I regret to inform you Garden District, the business entity, has been closed.

I worked very hard to maintain it, but at a certain point it did not make sense to continue.

Thank you for supporting GD for 10 great yrs. It was a pleasure serving you.”

Garden District had moved from it’s original space at 14th and S (north east side, which is becoming a burger spot soon) to across the street and news of a closure had been circulating on and off for months. I am very sorry to see them go.

Back in Oct. ’10, Danny Harris, wrote a People’s District post for PoP about ‘Michael on Finding His Heritage’. I think people will agree it was fascinating and more than a bit sad to learn about the man, Michael, who resides on the corner of 14th and Corcoran St, NW. And I really don’t mean to be callous in asking the question but I couldn’t help but notice the corner seems to be turning into an eyesore. I know there is a homeless shelter (Central Union Mission) for the time being a half block north. The amount of material on the corner seems to be growing. Well, I’ll just get straight to the question – at what point, if any, do you think Michael’s belongings need to be contained or removed?

This condo is located at 1209 O St, NW:

Def. a bit of a more modern look today. Do you like the layout? This 2 bed/2 bath is going for $867,500 ($334.75 condo fee). Sound realistic?

Veranda is located at 1100 P St, NW. I can’t believe we have never properly judged them before, though we did mention them a bit when we looked at some of our favorite “hidden” restaurants back in July ’08. And I’ve been sorta hearing some mixed reviews lately, some love ’em some hate ’em. What’s the word? Any must order items or is this better as a drinking and/or brunch spot?

You can see their menu here.
