cat

“Dear PoPville,

I found a cat the other day and was wondering if you would be so kind as to post her to the blog. She was found Monday, 5/14, in Atlas Court NE on the I street side of the alley. She was very a very tattered nylon collar with no tags. I’ve taken her to be scanned and she isn’t chipped. She weighs about six pounds, very friendly and comes when called. She’s missing a few teeth, including a lower canine. She seems to be older and is unable to jump more than a foot or two. She’s a wonderful cat, and I’d love to see her in her home (my dogs would love it too).”

If you recognize this cat please email [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with OP. Thanks!

From an email:

“Gallery OonH H Street Photo Exhibition May 7-13 to Celebrate H Street History

H Street NE has been a destination and commercial corridor in D.C. for decades. However, it is just now experiencing an economic revitalization and cultural shift away from its historical roots. To celebrate everything that makes up this vibrant corridor, we are calling on photographers who want to share photographs old and new.

H Street’s rich history and culture make it a unique and energetic street that continues to attract development, sometimes at the expense of preservation. We are currently experiencing a collision of art and culture in this fast-changing neighborhood and want to document this fleeting moment in time through a collection of photographs.

We are calling on professional photographers, amateur photographers and iphoneographers who want to share photographs old and new. We particularly welcome submissions highlighting the history of H Street and encourage anyone with older and historical photographs to partake in this exhibit. We also welcome creativity in your submissions! Show us what H Street looks like from your perspective and how this mile-long stretch of road connects so many diverse communities.

stupidiest marketing campaign ever

It may have may have one of the most ridiculous, to put it mildly, marketing campaigns and it may not run on Sundays (which I still can’t believe hasn’t caused more outrage) but I will admit that I’m going to ride the Streetcar. When I do super long walkabouts and my route takes me to H Street – I can see myself occasionally riding it to Union Station.

So, while it has been fun giving them grief [latest from the Economist “The catastrophic execution of the streetcar project has somewhat obscured the fact that even if everything had gone smoothly, the planning itself is rotten.”], nevertheless I want you to be honest – will you ride the Streetcar? How often do you think you will? What’s your scenario?

Actually it just occurred to me, I do many of my walkabouts on Sunday oh well…

411-413 H Front

“Dear PoPville,

I’m the owner of 411-413 H. Here are some before/during photos of the construction. It has been a really long road to renovate these dilapidated buildings, and I’m sad to say that DC makes it really difficult to turn around those blighted buildings in your neighborhood. So, when you sit there and wonder “what the hell is taking so long?”, remember that behind *some* of these buildings are owners who are struggling with DCRA and the utility companies. My wife and I learned that the hard way. Either way, the team at Nandos and their designers did an incredible job with the final design. Look forward to many meals here with our H Street neighbors.”
