From an email:

“To ring in 5774, DGS Delicatessen Chef Barry Koslow will offer a modern Rosh Hashanah dinner.

The menu celebrates the sweet year ahead and features a bounty of “new fruit”, the harvest of the coming season. Koslow is making pumpkin kreplach with pistachios and pomegranates. He’ll be lacquering duck breasts with honey and serving it with apples and rosemary. And ending the meal with fig fluden and pear sorbet.

The Rosh Hashanah Menu will be available September 4th through September 7th during dinner for $40, or $58 with wine pairings.”

Thanks to a reader for sending word about the change coming to Pines of Florence on Connecticut Ave between north Dupont and Woodley Park. A website for Jambalaya Room says:

“Welcome to the Jambalaya Room: Thank you for your visiting the Jambalaya Room! Experience the best, and the most authentic Louisiana Cajun & Creole Cuisine on the East Coast!! The imitators and duplicators of Louisiana Cajun & Creole Cuisine who label their dishes as “Orleans…” “Cajun…” or “Creole…” I am here to set the record straight for the sake of people who know TRUE Louisiana Cajun & Creole Cuisine. I have the best story of how I arrived here…driven by the need to have authentic Cajun & Creole cuisine on the East Coast. I am ready to share that story with everyone. Allow me to rescue your palate from its past disappointments—and give you the authentic Creole & Cajun Cuisine experience outside of New Orleans.”

You can see their future menu here.

I called Pines of Florence and was told they will remain open while the menu is finalized and some small renovations will take place as well. They were unable to tell me an exact date when the change will occur. Updates when the change is official.

Back in Nov. 2012 Pines of Florence briefly rebranded as a bakery and cafe.  Before that we previously judged them back in Jan. 2009.

Looking forward to seeing how Jambalaya Room turns out.

Dear PoPville,

We are opening a Mediterranean Gourmet Market in the former Aaron Gallery space in Dupont Circle in middle of September. We plan to sell gourmet Mediterranean products from small artisan producers from Mediterranean countries including: Greece, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Turkey and Tunisia. We also want to help promote local artists and want to offer the opportunity for local artists to feature and sell their artwork in our space.

We have a mezzanine area (442 square feet) of the store which we hope to turn into a mini gallery featuring and selling paintings and photography, as well as offer the space for rent for exhibitions and events. We also have retail space of appx. 1,500 square feet which we will have some availability to feature some artwork additionally on the main floor.

Construction of the space should be complete end of this week and will be available to view prior to artists deciding which pieces they believe will work best in our space.

We are open for all offers from local artists who wish to cooperate with us and can receive any proposal at themediway(at)gmail(dot)com.”

From DDOT:

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced that the signals at the Dupont traffic circle will be temporarily placed on flash mode between 10 am and approximately 3 pm on Tuesday, August 20 while crews upgrade the signalization system.

The traffic signals are scheduled to be turned back on as normal before the evening rush-hour period on Tuesday.

Traffic delays are anticipated to occur on Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts avenues heading through the traffic circle.

Traffic control officers will be onsite to direct traffic through this area. Motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians approaching and traveling through the circle are urged to use caution and to consider alternate routes to avoid delays.”

Hopefully the upgrades include the ability for pedestrians to cross without having to wait in the median.
