Ed. Note: I like the name change to Swann Dive.

Back in April we learned Saloon 45 (now hoping to be called Swann Dive) would be coming to the former Sandy’s Flower Shop:

“Will provide a small menu approximately 5 to 7 items of mostly fried foods along with over 50 specialty craft beers chosen mostly from local brewers. We have a small selection of wines and cocktails. Drinks and food will be provided in a quiet relaxing environment either inside at a table or outside in our summer garden. Summer Garden Seats #36, Total Occupancy Load #85.”

Interesting update from Short Articles about Long Meetings:  [“ABRA held a closed hearing about the matter on August 6, according to official records (see page 4 of a 22-page .pdf here), and will issue a decision within 60 days”] via ANC Rep Will Stephens:

“Our Ward 2 Council Member Jack Evans has submitted a letter supporting the protest and asking the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board to full-out deny the new license application. The letter is here. This is highly unusual, because normally Council Members do not get involved in liquor license requests.”

Updates when a ruling is announced.

Back in June we learned that even Strip Clubs were getting in on the small plates game. Urban Daddy reports:

“Come up with a handy alibi while you hang out at MPire Club in the space that once housed the similarly inclined Joanna’s 1819 Club, soft-opening later this week.”

From MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announced today that the death of former Presidential Press Secretary 73-year-old James Brady has been ruled a homicide related to the 1981 shooting.

On Monday, March 30, 1981, at approximately 2:25 pm, while President Ronald Reagan was exiting the Washington Hilton Hotel, a gunman fired multiple shots. President Reagan was struck by a bullet that ricocheted off his limousine. Press Secretary Brady was also struck by a bullet. Additionally, a United States Secret Service agent and an MPD officer were also shot.

The suspect, John Hinckley Jr., was immediately subdued by additional MPD officers and members of the United States Secret Service. Hinckley was charged with the attempted assassination of the President of the United States, in addition to other charges related to the shooting.

On Monday, August 4, 2014, at approximately 10:40 am, at his residence in Alexandria, Virginia, Mr. James Brady succumbed to his injuries sustained in the 1981 shooting and was pronounced dead.

His remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Northern District of Virginia. An autopsy was conducted and revealed the cause of death to be a gunshot wound and consequences thereof, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Mr. Brady’s death brings the number of criminal homicides for 2014 to 71.

Members of Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch, the United States Attorney’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are reviewing this case.”

Thanks to a reader for passing on from CBS Washington:

“A leader of the District’s Dupont Circle neighborhood allegedly used a racial slur, threw personal items belonging to homeless people, and attacked his neighbor with a chemical substance during a bizarre early-morning rampage this week.

Witnesses say Robert Leo Dwyer, who was elected as an Advisory Neighborhood Commission representative in 2012, was “acting crazy” on the corner of 17th Street and Corcoran Street NW shortly before 3 a.m. on July 28.”
