“Dear PoPville,

An anti-gay message has been sprayed in front of Thaiphoon at Connecticut and S ST NW. I took theses photos Sunday night, after the Orlando shooting–not sure when it was sprayed. Also, is there a way to help clean the sidewalk? Do any neighbors have a pressure washer?”

Another reader updates:

“Looks like someone spray painted “DOWN WITH THE GAY AGENDA” on the sidewalk, and someone later painted over GAY to say GUN. (At least that’s what it looked like from across the street.) It’s cordoned off right now and police are on site.”

“In response to the mass shooting at a nightclub in Orlando, FL, Mayor Muriel Bowser issued the following statement:

This morning, our hearts are heavy after hearing about the tragedy in Orlando. Just yesterday, we held the annual Capital Pride Parade, a celebration of the rich diversity and contributions of the LGBTQ community in the District of Columbia.

Ahead of today’s Capital Pride Festival, I have been briefed by MPD Chief Cathy Lanier about increased security measures. Today as always, we will not be deterred by hate as we gather to celebrate love.”

GBD

A source deep in the industry shares some potentially exciting news about the Neighborhood Restaurant Group. They hear they are planning on a new beer garden for Dupont. I will give the scuttlebutt a 67% accuracy rating. And if it does happen I’m guessing it’ll be for the GBD space that closed back in March. Fingers crossed – updates when/if more is known.

Think Dupont could support a new beer garden as well as Sauf Haus a few blocks away?

Update – I’m told it’s definitely not at GBD. Hopefully rumors will be confirmed/denied on other Dupont locations next week – stay tuned and feel free to add your guesses of where it could possibly be?

Dupont Circle

Been getting lots of emails and tweets about this over the last week or so, most recently Jonathan Padget writes last night:

“Okay this deal where everything around the fountain is soaked and water’s flowing into #DupontCircle itself is cray.”

Cray indeed, cray indeed. C’mon National Parks Service!!

“Dear PoPville,

Yesterday around 7:30 p.m. my friend’s dog Cobalt and a Husky (we think its name is Rex but aren’t sure) got into a fight at the S Street dog park and in the scuffle the husky bit my friend’s right forearm, just above her wrist.

Unfortunately, the phone number provided by Rex’s owner (we believe her name is Dita) is a dead end. At the strong urging of my doctors, we are just trying to locate the dog’s owner to find out if Rex has his vaccines and records.

My friend would have to start the rabies vaccine tomorrow if she can’t get this information. If anyone knows Rex and his owner I’d greatly appreciate your help in tracking down this info so we can hopefully avoid a painful and expensive procedure.”

“Have not seen him at the Dupont metro in a while. He’s been a constant figure there for years, so I found it a little strange that he’s been gone for a few weeks. Just wanted to know if anyone had any information about where he may have gone. I wanted to make sure he was alright. ”
