Yesterday Tom Sietsema reported on Twitter:

“Sad news du jour: one of my favorite downtown restaurants, @WoodwardTableDC, is closing late August after a 7-year run. “We were never able to transcend the neighborhood,” owner Jeff Buben says of the 200-seater. “It takes a lot of resources to run a restaurant like that.”

Woodward Table opened in the former Potenza space back in November 2012. Updates when we learn what becomes of the space.

“I am writing to let you know that I have made the decision to close both Danielle’s Desserts shops.

This was not an easy decision for me. However, I have determined that it is necessary to close the shops to address some critical health issues and to spend quality time with family members and friends that are so important to me. (more…)

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Second District announced an arrest has been made in reference to an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Bicycle) offense that occurred on Monday, June 24, 2019, in the 1100 block of 19th Street, Northwest.

At approximately 2:20 pm, the suspect and the victim were involved in a verbal altercation at the listed location. During the altercation, the suspect threatened the victim, struck the victim with a bicycle and made homophobic slurs towards the victim. (more…)

Coming to a ping pong court near you is SPINBLEDON; During the week of July 8th-12th, SPIN locations throughout the country will host a series of events allowing players and spectators to experience the popular tennis championship like never before. The DC SPIN location is excited to debut an Astroturf installation at the studio’s center court – much like the iconic grass fields of Wimbledon – in their underground Press Building location, plus offer specialty drinks reminiscent of popular sips from across the pond. Highlights of the weeks’ events include a community ping pong tournament, a White Party with all-night happy hour for those dressed in white, and a Kids Day with free lessons, face painting and a kid-friendly drink and food menu.
