Funxion is located at 1309 F Street, NW. We judged them back in July. Their liquor license application says:

“CURRENT HOURS OF OPERATION
Sunday through Thursday 10 am – 2 am and Friday & Saturday 10 am – 3 am

PROPOSED HOURS OF OPERATION
Sunday through Saturday 24 Hours”

Do you think folks will be craving a bison burger or a ‘heart blend’ (freshly juiced beets, carrots, apples and pears are blended with a touch of avocado, protein powder, lemon and cleansing ginger) at 4am…?

On a side note, even though it’s getting cold, they have the sweetest outdoor tables and seats.

I think we’ve judged this building in the past. It’s one of my favorites. From a press release:

“Douglas Development today announced that Habitat for Humanity will lease 5,800 square feet in the Douglas Development-owned property at 1424 K Street, NW. Habitat for Humanity will move into the 6th floor of the newly renovated building. Renovations of the building include a modernized lobby, with rich marble finishes; renovated elevator cabs; new windows; and contemporary restrooms.

National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is the second non-profit to sign a contract with Douglas Development this week. NED will increase its office space from 50,000 square feet to 65,000 square feet in the historic Woodies Building. Occupying prime Downtown real estate at 1025 F Street, NW, NED is located above retailers, H&M, Zara, and Forever 21, along with Madam Tussaud’s Wax Museum.”

From a press release:

“CRUMBS Bake Shop, home of the original gourmet cupcake, will make its mark on the nation’s capitol by bringing its signature sweets to the Washington D.C. area just in time for Holidays! CRUMBS will open its first location on Saturday, November 13th at 604 11th Street at the corner of F Street. This Bake Shop is one of several slated to open this year including Union Station and Clarendon locations.

“We are thrilled to bring our signature gourmet cupcakes to the Washington DC area,” said Mia Bauer, CRUMBS co-founder. “This is a natural next step for us as we expand and hope to make CRUMBS everyone’s favorite neighborhood Bake Shop.”

To celebrate their debut, CRUMBS is pleased to invite the entire community to their F Street location to partake in their 1,000 cupcake give-away on November 19th. In addition, to their signature cupcakes available in taste, classic, signature varieties and new Colossal CRUMB, CRUMBS Bake Shops offer a variety muffins, cookies, brownies, coffee and other baked goods.”

19th is located at 1900 I St NW. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this place because it was pretty packed when I walked past it on Saturday. Is this a good sports bar? How’s the food? You can see their menu here. Though, I gotta be honest – I can’t believe how douchey their intro to Happier Hour sounds:

“Because 19th is smack in the middle of the financial district and on any given day you’ll find the big swinging d**cks of DC’s firms celebrating or soaking at the bar we bring you…Happier Hour”

Seriously? Well even so, I’m curious – what’s the story here?

Thanks to a reader for sending in the photo. Does anybody remember Cities? The name sounds familiar but when I did a brief google search I couldn’t find anything beyond an old craigslist listing hiring managers. Was it previously located at 19th and I St, NW? Was it a good restaurant/lounge?

I’ll be sure to update when they re-open.

PJ Clarke’s opens up in the old Solives space at 1600 K St, NW tonight. I was able to take a sneak peek yesterday and snap some photos of the first floor. It looks great. Their press release says:

“The first floor of the 125-seat restaurant in the nation’s capital boasts high ceilings and an open kitchen headed by Executive Chef Jason Brumm. Brumm moved to DC from Nashville, where he most recently served as the Executive Chef/Owner of modern American restaurant Radius10. At P.J. Clarke’s in Washington DC, Brumm will work with mid-Atlantic ingredients and flavors. In addition to the restaurant’s sizeable raw bar, hearty soups and generous entrees, he offers daily rotisserie specials showcasing local chicken, free-range turkey, Duroc pork and leg of lamb.”

Lots more photos and full press release after the jump. (more…)
