From MPD:

“On July 14th, 2015, the Metropolitan Police Department began conducting prostitution enforcement in the area that encompasses 9th Street to 17th Street from L Street to N Street, Northwest. The operation has resulted in thirty arrests for solicitation of prostitution since the operation began. The arrests made were all males (“Johns”), and they were all charged with solicitation of prostitution. This is an ongoing operation that will continue to focus on the prostitution complaints in this area.”

and

“Over the past few weekends, members detailed to the Prostitution Enforcement Unit have conducted operations in the downtown areas of the 1000-1300 blocks of K Street, Northwest, in addition to several surrounding streets. As a result, there have been approximately thirty (30) arrests of individuals for Solicitation for Prostitution.

The current enforcement efforts were focused on the “customers” in reverse style operations. These arrests have made a noticeable difference to the community and the enforcement efforts will continue.”

Ed. Note: Last week we learned of 8 arrested on K Street.

“calling for backup and arresting 4 attorneys @ rec softball on the #Mall”

A reader also forwards an email:

“…as my team was leaving the Mall yesterday, there were 3 park police cop cars by a softball team (not our league) on the ellipse. 4 softball players were handcuffed in the back of the car. We asked the team what happened, and they said the cops came over and said they had warned teams about beer last week and were arresting people for open containers this week. Not tickets, not citations, HANDCUFFED IN COP CARS.

While this offends me on so many levels (this is an arrestable offense? you warn one softball player and assume everyone has been warned? etc), I strongly recommend you DO NOT drink beer on the Ellipse. So far I haven’t seen any action taken on the Mall side of Constitution but be careful.”

“Behold, DC’s first long-term parklet! It doesn’t seem like the most relaxing location but people are using it.”

A Golden Triangle BID’s press release says:

“Passers-by on K Street in the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District will soon have a new outdoor space. A parklet, which is a mini-park created by extending the existing sidewalk, will transform two parking spaces into a playful, energetic area in front of 2020 K St., NW.

The parklet, named parKIT, was created by two Gensler designers who won an in-house design competition. The BID and Gensler will hold small activities in the park each week through the rest of the summer with a theme of “Making the City.”

The petition worked!!

From the Washington Post:

“Donald Trump’s recent statements disparaging immigrants make it impossible for my company and I to move forward with opening a successful Spanish restaurant in Trump International’s upcoming hotel in Washington, D.C.,” the statement reads. “More than half of my team is Hispanic, as are many of our guests. And, as a proud Spanish immigrant and recently naturalized American citizen myself, I believe that every human being deserves respect, regardless of immigration status.”
