I got tons of reports on twitter yesterday afternoon about shots fired in Franklin Square Park (follow @PoPville to get the alerts immediately, apologies for the delay in posting I was away from the computer at the time.) Reports starting coming in at 5:18pm:

“Just heard 3 gunshots in Franklin square and watched someone sprint away.”

“think i just heard four gunshots in downtown dc? 14th and K?”

“I heard them too, and everyone on the street froze and freaked out. Hearing sirens now”

“there are police and two shells on the ground on k between 13th and 14th.”

“I was at traffic light at 14th/K, SE side of intersection when I heard it, everyone ran like mad for safety.Hope everyone is safe.”

The Washington Post reported:

“No one was injured, and D.C. police said it appears nothing was struck but the investigation was continuing.”

So if you see protesters out and about in the area, it’s that time of year…from MPD:

“The Metropolitan Police Department and the Department of Transportation would like to inform the public of street closures in conjunction with the 2016 fall meeting of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund scheduled to start on Friday, October 7, 2016 until Sunday, October 9, 2016.

The following streets will be closed starting at 7:00 pm on Friday, October 7, 2016 and will remain closed until Saturday, October 8, 2016 at approximately 8:00 pm:

§ 19th Street, NW from Pennsylvania Avenue to G Street, NW

§ H Street, NW from 20th Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW”

Thanks to Adam for sending. Red Robin Burger Works only opened in March of last year. This is also the former space of Boloco Burritos who also abruptly closed in December of 2014.

Other bars/restaurants that have recently closed on 19th Street are: Olivia’s Dinner, Protein Bar, Sophie’s Cuban Cuisine, Noodles and Co., Smith and Wollensky’s and Science Club:

Another lunch option for the downtown crowd – from Modern Market’s liquor license placard:

“A restaurant offering a variety of menu items such as salads, soups, and breakfast items and serving alcohol on-premise only. Total number of seats: 45. Total Occupancy Load: 63.”

Hours will be Sunday through Saturday 7 am – 9 pm.

They’ll be located near the new Chipotle on Vermont. Updates when they get closer to opening.

Check out their Bethesda menus here.

Modern Market’s website says:

“Hello and welcome to Modern Market. We want to change what people eat.

Did you ever notice that when you eat great food, you feel good? We did.

We also noticed how hard it is to find places that serve great tasting, healthy food made from ingredients you can trust for a reasonable price. Eating out seems to be a lot like voting – choose the least worst option and get on with it. We wanted to change that.

So in 2009, we quit our jobs and opened a restaurant in Boulder, Colo. We built a neighborhood spot where we could eat every day and doing so would make us happier and healthier.

We serve artisan fare without all the pomp – simple counter service with amazing, scratch-made food that nourishes your mind and body. Priced low enough that you can afford (around $10), but high enough that true high quality sources can be used and our team members can be fairly compensated.

We cook our food using simple, whole ingredients purchased from farmers, ranchers and suppliers we know and trust; who love and respect the planet as much as we do. (more…)
