Thanks to Kim for confirming (from a worker on site) our Naf Naf Grill scuttlebutt. This is the former Protein Bar space (and Cosi before them) that closed back in March.

Naf Naf’s website says:

“Naf Naf Grill is the premium destination for fresh, authentic Middle Eastern food. Oven baked pitas, hand cut salads, and freshly prepared sauces all served as an accompaniment to award-winning shawarma and falafel.”

Check out their menu here. Stay tuned for an opening date as build out progresses.

They will be located across the street from the former Cafe Carvy and newly opened Chef Brian’s Comfort Kitchen:

From MPD:

“Good morning. Members of the Third District Crime Suppression Team (CST) and the Narcotics and Special Investigations Division (NSID) conducted another prostitution enforcement operation last night/early this morning in the area of 12th Street and Massachusetts Avenue NW in response to community concerns regarding an increase in visible prostitution activities. The operation resulted in the arrests of 7 males and 4 females for prostitution related offenses. We will continue our efforts in the area in hopes of making a lasting impact on this illegal activity.”

Thanks to Dana for sending. Yesterday we learned a Gregorys Coffee was also coming to Vermont and K St, NW. Looks we got a new coffee playa in town.

With multiple locations in New York City, Gregorys  website says:

“At Gregorys, we believe that respect for our coffee and respect for our customers go hand in hand. So we take freshly roasted beans grown by skilled, dedicated farmers all over the world and prepare them for you in a way that will fit your needs without sacrificing the quality of the coffee. Grab one of delicious blends and run. Watch us pull you a shot of our one-of-a-kind espresso, with or without some expertly steamed and poured milk. Sit down with one of our single origin coffees and appreciate how its complex flavor changes as it cools. Whatever pace you’re going at, our friendly and skilled baristas will make sure that both your coffee and your experience are absolutely wonderful.”

Ken reports:

“There has been some work going on in 1100 Vermont for sometime but wasn’t sure what it was. Well, today I walked by and they were putting up signs. It’s a Gregorys Coffee chain from NYC. I think this is their first foray into DC.”

If it is the NYC Gregorys their website says:

Some days the Gods are angry with you and some days the Gods smile upon you. I just got a big old smile walking around downtown. I noticed some construction going on next to Joe’s Seafood and spotted Tony Tomelden from The Pug (1234 H St, NE) walking out (who’ve I’ve known for ages so he couldn’t hide.) First of all holy crap – I knew he was looking to open something new but I had no idea it would be downtown.

Which if you think about it, is freaking brilliant. How sweet to have a – The Pug downtown. But of course it won’t be a replica of The Pug (no disrespect to 1234 H Street but this is uh, let’s say, quite a different space) and what’s even better is that he’s opening it up with his Brookland’s Finest co-owner John Solomon (also owner of Solly’s at 11th and U St, NW.) But unlike Brookland’s Finest (12th and Jackson Street, NE) there will be no food component here – this is gonna be a straight up bar. A proper bar. Oh and the name of that bar will be Union Trust, in homage to the Union Trust Building. If all goes well they hope to open this fall so STAY TUNED.
