Little Havana Closing Saturday, Anafre projected to open this Fall.

“Little Havana, Solis’ critically acclaimed Cuban restaurant, will close at the end of the day on Saturday, October 5 after just over a year of operation. Fans have just a few more chances to enjoy Little Havana’s favorites like their Cubano sandwich, Lechon Caribe, and the Instagram-worthy Piña Colada which is served in a pineapple.

The space currently occupied by Little Havana at 3704 14th Street NW will house a new concept from Chef Solis called Anafre. Ananafre, meaning “portable oven” in Spanish, is traditionally a clay pot that has an opening in the bottom where hot coals are placed that then heat up the dish on top of the pot. (more…)

Handguns recovered by MPD in Columbia Heights and Petworth Thursday

“Officers in the Third District recovered 2 illegal firearms in the Columbia Heights area today. The first gun was recovered during the execution of a search warrant in the 3000 block of 14th Street NW. The second gun was recovered on the 2800 block of 14th Street NW. Arrests were made in both cases.

We will continue our efforts to remove illegal firearms from our community and hold those individuals who have them accountable.”

“On September 26, 2019 at approximately 9:30 pm, members of the Fourth District observed an adult male in the 4900 block of Georgia Avenue, NW, who appeared to armed with a gun. (more…)

11:30am Saturday in Park View: “I was brutally assaulted and robbed by 2 males”

“I just wanted to let you know I was brutally assaulted and robbed by 2 males in between Columbia and Harvard street on Sherman. They followed me from 7-11 and attacked me from behind. I was brutally beaten for 30-45 seconds and they got away with my wallet.

The law enforcement responded immediately and they have suspects being questioned.

I am OK, my thoughts are with our safety as a community.”

MPD Confirms Six People Shot in Columbia Heights, 1 of whom died

Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Thursday, September 19, 2019, in the 1300 block of Columbia Road, Northwest.

At approximately 10:01 pm, members of the Third District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival on the scene, officers located five adult male victims and one adult female victim, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene and transported five of the victims to local hospitals for treatment. One of the adult male victims displayed no signs consistent with life and remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent has been identified as 21 year-old Vincent Carter, of Southeast, DC. (more…)

Man Found Shot in Columbia Heights Last Night; “Helicopter circling Capitol Hill/Eastern Market last night”; Stabbing near Dupont Circle

“The third district is currently investigating a shooting. A victim has been transported to an area hospital from the 1400 block of Girard St NW with non life threatening gunshot wounds to the leg. Although the victim was found on Girard St, at this time we do not know where the incident actually took place and are continuing to investigate. No crime scene has been located yet.

Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099.”

A few readers reported last night: “At least one helicopter with search light was circling Capitol Hill/Eastern Market last night, starting at 9:30 PM and lasting well past midnight. Any idea what was going on?”
