Alas, the epic journey of The Heights is about to come to a merciful conclusion. I just found out their last day is Sunday. I know there have been some negotiations for who will take over the spot but nothing is in stone yet. (more…)

“The Third District is currently investigating a shooting in the 2900 block of 14th Street NW. An adult male has been transported to an area hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Motorists and pedestrians can expect road closures in the area as we investigate.

Thanks to all who’ve shared this awfulness. The video above shows a taxi on 14th Street in front of DCUSA (props to the women behind the taxi for saying something) and Wonderland at 11th and Kenyon Street, NW.
Then Deputy Mayor Donahue tweeted on Sunday around 5pm:
“A short while ago, people heard loud bangs inside Union Station & fled the building. @DCPoliceDept & @dcfireems immediately responded.
• There is no active shooter
• There are no gunshot wound victims
• Appears that the loud bangs were fireworks being set off”
THERE IS NO EXCUSE. NONE.

Lots of folks have been messaging this morning about the giant balloon spotted over Columbia Heights.
This is the famed imaging balloon of course! Our last sighting was June 26, 2019.
Our first sighting of the imaging balloon was back in October 2009.

About a month ago we learned that Pho 54 was coming to the former Love ‘n’ Faith cafe space on 14th Street just north of Florida Ave. I spotted some workers and they said they’d be opening in “the 2nd week of July”. Stay tuned for an exact date.
