Here are some cool pictures of the interior of the 3DG project and future home of the Meridian Pint bar. For those who don’t recall you can read the interview I did with Meridian Pint owner Jon Andrade here.

They’ve been digging out the basement:

The roof has been removed:

They’ve applied for a liquor license:

And outdoor cafe seating:

The owner has a Web site that says:

“This condo is in excellent condition. It is perfectly located in Columbia Heights on a pretty, quiet street with plenty of street parking. The building is just steps from the Columbia Heights Metro stop and the new Columbia Heights retail development (Target, Bestbuy, Bed Bath and Beyond, Washington Sports Club, Marshalls, Staples, and More) and plenty of other area nightlife, restaurants, shops. The building is also an easy downhill walk to the U Street Metro and Corridor with plenty of additional shopping and nightlife. Short walk also to Adams Morgan. This condo is right in the center of it all!”

More details and photos can be found here.

It seems the condo has been on the market since at least July 20th (when the Web site was created). It’s a two bedroom two bathroom going for $465,000. What do you think is a realistic price for a ground floor condo at this location?

This condo conversion is located at 1309 Fairmont Street, NW.

The flier for unit A says:

“Custom Renovation complete! 2 level condo in an all brick Victorian townhouse . An architectural delight w/ all new windows, custom millwork, no detail overlooked! Brand new kitchen w/ cherry cabinetry, granite counters, Bosch stainless appliances; bathrooms with granite countertops; recessed lighting throughout; exposed brick wall; deck in back; offstreet parking available; 2 blocks to Metro.”

More info and virtual tour found here.

The flier for Unit B says the same thing as Unit A. But you can find more info and a virtual tour of Unit B here.

Unit A is going for $649,000 and Unit B is going for $729,000 (a 20k price reduction for B). They are both 3 bedrooms 2.5 bathrooms. Do these prices sound right? After looking at the virtual tour – how do you think the conversion turned out?

SimplySoles opened up in this new spot on Nov. 1st. I spoke with owner, Kassie Rempel, who said she picked this spot because the area has developed into a shopping destination and it is has great parking options (being so close to the DCUSA mall) as well as being very convenient to her Mt. Pleasant home. She looked into opening up a spot in Mt. Pleasant but it didn’t offer the commercial hub she was looking for.

Rempel’s shoes come from Italy, Brazil and Spain. Additionally, she offers her own line called the Lilly Bee Collection. Shoes start at $125 and up. The store also features handbags and children’s shoes. SimplySoles is offering a 24 Hour Internet sale today where everything is 40% off.

Following is an email from Inspector Edward Delgado, 3D, MPD

Good Morning Neighbors I write this email to inform you that the Third District made yet another arrest for robbery, however the circumstances surrounding this latest robbery you will find upsetting.  The facts are reported as reported below:In the earlier this year the Columbia Heights neighborhood experienced a rash of violent robberies.  This particular suspect approaches people from behind and hits his victims.  Once the victim is down, stolen are cell phones, money and IPODS.  The suspect was also identified as committing six (6) robberies within the METRO Rail System.  Once this suspect was developed as a viable suspect in the METRO robberies, DC Police began to look at the suspect on several robberies as well..  The suspect was was subsequently identified in thirteen (13) robberies in Columbia Heights.  The suspect, who was a juvenile, was released from jail because he was found to be incompetent to stand trial.

The suspect was released back into the Columbia Heights Community where he committed another 6 robberies.  The total number of robberies at that time stood at nine teen (19) robberies.  Well the suspect was released back into the community and was placed in a halfway house where he absconded and came back to the Columbia Heights neighborhood.  Well, I was never notified that he was released or even absconded from the group home.  Recently, he committed yet another robbery, this time within the grounds of Cardozo High School. This is a total of twenty (20) robberies that this suspect has committed and I am concerned that if this person released again he may commit more robberies or worse harm one of you.  I find this lack of accountability by the juvenile justice system to be a travesty and a disservice to the community.

Please view the enclosed OAG Organizational Chart (click here OAG Chart) and I ask that each of you write an email or letter to the Attorney General Peter Nickels and every supervisor, manager, and attorney under the “PUBLIC SAFETY CLUSTER”

Please remember that the email address is the First Name then a dot then the last name @ DC. Gov

(Ex. Edward.Delgado@ dc.gov)I expect each of you to flood the email system today because time is critical in this matter.  Let them not release this criminal yet again into the community.  You can refer to this juvenile as M.A.R., they will know whom you are talking about.  I also ask you to forward this email to which ever person you think will assist in this matter.  Remember flood the system….Office of the Attorney General

This seems like a nice special. CommonWealth is located at 1400 Irving St NW near the Columbia Heights Metro. They now have a “Stroller Special” which consists of:

“11:30am to 4pm
Monday-Friday

Kids under 6 enjoy a plate of cheese, pigs in a blanket, sliced fruit and chips.

Parents enjoy a free half-pint!”

So now that CommonWealth has been around for a while – what’s the word? Is it still super crowded? Have you discovered any meals that are solid? What’s the best beer?

I thought they were just remodeling? Wow, this is not good. Retail at that end of Tivoli seems to be having a tough time. Well, frozen yogurt seems to be popular… Anyone know what might go into these places?

On a happier note there is a new bakery coming a bit further north on 14th Street.

This one is located two doors down from Sweet Time Bakery at 3531 14th Street.

I especially like the building Guatemala Bakery is in because it has one of my favorite signs above it:

I am aware I’m not normal…

I know folks have been super curious to know about when this demolition on 14th near Chapin would occur. So enjoy the above photo.

Speaking of positive development it looks like the Columbia Heights Streetscape project will be starting soon.

That’s a pretty expensive project. But if it looks anything like the model below it is going to be super sweet. So let’s take bets now – when will the streetscape project be completed? 2009, 2010, 2011 or later?

MBR on 3rd flr Jacuzzi, walk-in shower w/ dbl heads, Orig. wood flrs, recessed lts, RENTAL UNIT in Bsmt w/ everything. 3 Blks to Metro. Closing help!”

More info and photos found here.

Pretty sick kitchen, yeah? I’m curious to know what you think about this house because of the price reduction. It was originally priced at $660,000 but is now available for $599,900. Do you think the new price is more realistic? What do you think about the kitchen?

Initial reports were that it was awesome but crowded. Kera asks:

“Hey, I live about a 15 minute walk from the Col. Heights WSC and I really want to join too, does anyone know if the hype has gone down from the initial opening and lessened the crowds? I plan to go after work (like everyone else I guess) around 6ish and possibly on weekend mornings (like everyone else!) lol I’ll probably have no such luck but does anyone else frequent during those times that could tell me if it’s crowded or not?”
