I have been getting a few messages from folks worried about the Maman Joon/Z Burger combo in Columbia Heights (opened there in 2024.)
I’m happy to say they were still open when I walked by on Saturday so fingers crossed!

For those who have flexible work hours, this is pretty great from El Chucho:
“Our new Progressive Taco HH: From 4 to 4:30pm Chicken Tinga, Al Pastor, Carnitas & Calabacita Tacos are $1. $2 from 4:30 to 5pm; $3 from 5 to 5:30pm; and $3.5 from 5:30 to 6pm. Mon-Fri; 3 per order at a time; no carry out; must order beverage from bar but doesn’t have to be alcoholic.”

Wondering if you might be able to crowdsource a solution to the mystery of this establishment on Park Road NW. It’s clearly been closed for months and looks abandoned, yet Yelp still says it is “open.” It’s disappointing because Mi Cuba Cafe was replaced with this eyesore.”

Joey first sent word around 11pm last night (Tuesday):
“About 15-30 shots fired in Columbia Heights, sounds like around 14th St. between Harvard and Columbia. At least one vehicle seemingly drove away with a flat tire. Not sure if they were involved.”
Others responded: “I’m at 14th and Girard and the street is closed as well as the alley to Harvard street, bullet casings on the road. Heard at least 10-15 shots fired right at 11pm.”
“Yup. I hear them, too. A bunch of shots . It stopped. Then a few more.”
