11th and Park Road, NW

Thanks to Max for sending Monday afternoon:

“Old Makan/Thirsty Crow Spot – Chairs Being Moved In. Just saw this as I was walking through the neighborhood. Wasn’t sure if there was something new going in? They were clearly bringing quite a few seats in to the space.”

OK, as I told my Patreon supporters in a PoPville plus + post – please join us there if you want to learn the earliest scoop on things – plus you’ll help ensure PoPville survives for another 10 years!! I digress, but seriously, join us if you are able. Anyway, I hear that a new beer bar/restaurant along the lines of what Meridian Pint did is coming to the space!! The deal wasn’t signed when I first heard about it so didn’t want to post about it here yet. But this is a good sign that maybe it is happening. STAY TUNED. And get the early, early word here. Cheers and fingers crossed on this one!!

ICYMI: Makan and Thirsty Crow closed here in 2025.

Meridian Pint closed here in 2019.

Thanks to Todd for the update yesterday afternoon:

“As of 3:15/3:30 today. There are workers cleaning—looks like they are vacuuming the bottom of the pool. The water is clearer. If the signs are accurate, the work is expected to take a week”

Thanks to all who emailed/messaged us yesterday afternoon and this morning: “THE FENCING IS GONE YAY!”

“Aaaaand I just tried to walk back through and it’s closed and there’s an event with tons of troops. The scoop from a free dc person is that hegseth is having an event. Upper lawn area is still open to walk through as of now, just the fountains closed for the event.” (more…)

11th and Park Road, NW photos by Brian Liu/ToolboxDC taken around September 2002

Oh WOW!! I’ve been meaning to share these for a while but keep forgetting. This building would eventually become home to Meridian Pint and Makan and now sits vacant. Though I have heard some scuttlebutt… but I’ll come back to that when it firms up. Thanks to Brian Liu/ToolboxDC for sharing this blast from the past with us. SO MANY MORE photos below, including a look inside: (more…)

14th and Fairmont Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

I live in Columbia Heights and was on my way to run an errand (Wednesday, 12:15pm), waiting at the 14th and Fairmont (south) bus stop, when a group of armed men in bulletproof vests came running from the direction of the corner gas station firing their weapons towards the group of about 10 people waiting at the bus stop.

I was hit in the hip by a long metal taser. They came back a little while later and identified themselves verbally as US Marshals. (more…)
