Dear PoPville,
Everyday on my walk to the Columbia Heights metro, I cross 16th street on Park road, but yesterday I noticed that there are no longer men lingering outside the Hermano Pedro Day Shelter / Shrine of Sacred Heart Church.
Having had several scary experiences with men blocking my way on the sidewalk, shouting profanities, spitting in my face, and then banging on the windows of cars stopped at the stoplight on Park, I can’t say that I’m not pleased. Just curious about whether this is part of some larger change in the neighborhood.

I might be mistaken but I believe this is one of the first single family homes to sell for over a million dollars in Columbia Heights. 1309 Kenyon Street, NW was originally listed at $1,299,000 but sold for $1,125,000 in Sept. 2008.
I wonder how much it would sell for today. It’s still one of my favorite homes in Columbia Heights:

11th and Park Rd, NW
Dear PoPville,
There’s a police light tower on 11th st in front of the dog park. I called downtown, and the officer I spoke to was friendly in his explanation that it’s only a preventative measure when there may have been recent crime in the area. None of us here on the 3300 block of 11th st NW are aware of anything recently. Does anyone have any other info? Gonna be tough to sleep tonight with the light of god in the window.

In late Feb. we learned El Chucho’s roof deck was getting a roof. For those who’ve been, does it still feel like you’re on a roof deck?
How do you think the overall look turned out – Thumbs up or down?
