“Crazy scene on 13th street — called water dept and there was a broken main or something. Lots of slushy ice including all over the cars parked on west side of the street — crappy start to the day!”

From a reader around 12:20am:
“Not sure what’s going in, but they just loaded a person into the back of an ambulance. There were 12 cops on the scene.”
@DCPoliceDept tweeted around 12:30am:

2620 13th Street, NW
“Dear PoPville,
I noticed a sign was installed in front of the A-B-C building today (now “The Alden”) located on 13th between Euclid and Fairmont streets. I’m assuming no parking.”
The Alden website says:
“Blending state-of-the-art amenities with unparalleled luxury,The Alden marks the pinnacle of sophisticated city living. The statuesque Colonial Revival-styled building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, offering residences a piece of history with modern amenities.
Blocks away from the Columbia Heights and U-Street Metro Stations, The Alden is situated in one of the most coveted new neighborhood in the District.
The Alden is located along the attractive and quiet 13th Street. With blossoming foliage and elegant Victorian and Wardman styled townhouses, this low-traffic street distinguishes itself from the rest of the city and provides a peaceful respite from the urban bustle.
Experience the culture and invigorating new establishments that make Columbia Heights and U-Street the new “IT” neighborhoods in DC. The U Street/Cardozo Metro Station has catalyzed a resurgence of fashionable clubs, restaurants, and boutiques as well as the renovation of historic landmarks such as the Lincoln Theater. The legendary Benʼs Chili Bowl, Bar Nun, The Gibson, and Bohemian Caverns help define the U Street Corridor and give it its pulsating personality.
One, two, three, and four bedroom layouts blend technology such as remotely programmable Nest learning thermostats and advanced video intercoms with the classic luxury of 3” white oak floors, warm cherry cabinetry, and Bosch washers and dryers. Other amenities include building-wide wifi, indoor bicycle storage, and spacious front and back yards landscaped in the classic English style.”
Prices range from $1950 to $3500 a month.

2737 Sherman Avenue, NW at Girard
Happy to say progress continues at Hilltop Bar & Restaurant coming to the corner of Sherman and Girard St, NW. For those who don’t recall this spot, we previously learned:
“And like Saloon, The Hilltop Restaurant and Bar will focus on German beer and other imports. But in addition to the focus on beer the duo also plan to offer a solid dining option. Nothing fancy but comfortable “American fare”. The key to Sam is comfort. Unlike the Saloon, The Hilltop Restaurant and Bar will not enforce (love it or hate it) no standing rules. They hope to keep the atmosphere relaxed and a real neighborhood spot.”
They’ve recently applied for a liquor license:
“New Tavern with Sidewalk Café Seating 25, total Occupancy Load 39.”
Hours of operation on the application are listed as Sunday through Thursday: 8am-2am, Friday and Saturday: 8am-3am.
Updates when an exact opening date is announced.

1400 Irving Street, NW
The folks at Acre 121 have been kind enough to host a PoPville party on Friday, January 31, from 5-8pm. The event will feature a new drink they will be offering called the PoPville Bang (a take on the Baltimore Bang – Bourbon, Pear Brandy, Lemon, Sugar – it is delicious) for $5, plus their regular happy hour specials, including all drafts for $5, select wines for $5, and select 1/2 price appetizers including: Deviled Eggs, Grilled Shrimp, Hot Legs, Hush Puppies, BBQ Pork Mac & Cheese, Okra & Manchego Flatbread. After the happy hour at 10pm The Bullbuckers will take the stage. I’ll also bring some t-shirts for those who’ve been asking. Hope to see lots of old and new folks. Have a great 3-day weekend!

At first I was just going to throw this up for a judging because I thought it turned out pretty nice. I also wondered if it added a whole new room? Anyway, this 4 bed/3.5 bath apparently sold for $914,500 on Jan. 13th. Holy cow!

Good news for taco fans – the little carryout, 3 Salsas, has now opened according to a New Columbia Heights reader. It’s located in the lower level of a row house at 3439 14th St, NW across the street from Thaitanic II.

And in other 14th Street taco news – don’t forget Taqueria Habanero is still coming a few blocks north on 14th Street near the Red Derby.
