“The National Park Service is planning to undertake Phase V of the preservation of Meridian Hill Park. We are proposing to continue repairs to the exposed aggregate concrete throughout the park, stabilize historic features, and install an American Disability Act (ADA) accessible entrance into the lower level of the park.

Chickass Completes Move Next Door in Columbia Heights, Becomes Chickas

Back in early November we noted a new chickass sign in the former Second Hand Retail Shop on 14th Street. At that time we weren’t sure if it was an expansion or if they were just moving next door. Turns out they were just moving next door. The original space at 3533 14th St, NW became a cell phone store.  I did also notice that they dropped an s at then end of their name.  Leave off the last s for savings?

Gory Addition to Jeanne D’Arc in Meridian Hill Park on Statue’s 92 Birthday

Tons of Fire Trucks on Spring Rd, NW

Dear PoPville,

There are at least 4 full-sized fire trucks, 2 EMTs and 2 emergency SUVs all on Spring Rd NW between 13th and 14th Streets NW. I live on Holmead and heard the first 3 trucks pull through and have been poking my head out the door to see if I can tell what’s going on. Within the last 10 minutes or so the 2 SUVs came and are blocking the traffic moving between 13th and 14th. I can only see people coming in and out of a house on Spring (directly across from Holmead), but it doesn’t seem to be a hectic situation. I’m not sure what’s going on. The only thing I can think of is if someone called in a Carbon Monoxide issue or other type of gas leak, but I would think they’d bring a PepCo person out…Any ideas?”

Lime Fresh Abruptly Closes in Columbia Heights

“Dear PoPville,

While walking by Lime yesterday, I noticed a sign that said “We are closed” taped on the outside of the door and a lot of activity inside, including removing the registers. Do you know if Lime is closing permanently? Or whether this is temporary for a remodel or something along those lines?”

Another reader writes:

“Lime Fresh Closed. All belongings pulled/snatched out. Sunday.”

I called the store and the folks at Lime Fresh confirm that the Columbia Heights location has permanently closed. They note that the Chinatown location on 7th Street remains open. Lime Fresh opened in Columbia Heights in DC USA back in August 2012. We judged them here.
