“This afternoon [Monday], around 12pm, my partner was sitting in his car writing an email on his phone in front of Streets Market on 14th when a man approached the car and knocked on the window. He lowered the window a couple inches, and the man demanded that he hand over everything on him. Luckily a car turned up the street at that moment, distracting the would-be robber, and he was able to drive away and call the police. Police were on the scene in 20 minutes, and were able to apprehend the suspect, as he had already robbed someone right before. Thanks to the police, this guy is off the streets, at least for now.”

Back in June the powers that be wanted to know who you’d like to see take over the old Ruby Tuesday space in Columbia Heights. They have chosen BBQ (which nobody requested.) Anyway Mr. T in DC tweeted me the coming soon sign Sunday morning:

I’m told that this is from a “Great family run restaurant out of Florida.”

You can see Jenkins Quality BBQ’s Florida menus here and their story here. Updates as they get closer to opening.

bike

“Dear PoPville,

One of our bikes was stolen this past week from our locked storage shed in Columbia Heights. This is a unique bike so if you see it for sale by someone it is likely stolen.

It is a military green Montague Paratrooper folding bike and looks like this (above.) It has been slightly modified to keep the seat from sliding down when mountain biking.

Please contact teresa.crawford(at)gmail.com with tips.”

A reader reports:

“I stopped by Vietnamese Chelsea at Park Rd and 14th St in Columbia Heights this weekend. They have a 20% off promotion to celebrate their grand opening. The fried spring rolls were fatter than Pho 14 and the pho beef broth was more gingery. Everything was very good. Really nice staff, too. I recommend giving it a try.”

and

“We were driving up 11th towards Park (over by Red Rocks) about 7:30, and heard what we thought were several gunshots and saw a couple of people running.”
