Rasika is located at 633 D Street, NW. I believe it is generally considered one of the best Indian restaurants in the city. The reviewers on Yelp certainly give high ratings. What do you guys think – is this the best Indian food in town? Any must order dishes?

We took a look at the Adams Morgan location here. From a press release:

When Adam Eidinger and Alan Amsterdam opened Capitol Hemp Clothing and Accessories on April 20, 2008, they never imagined it would be less than two years before they would open a second store at 519 H Street, NW. Now the DC duo are pleased to announce they will host a major event at the Rock N Roll Hotel!! On the evening of Tuesday, April 20, 2010. The event is expect to demonstrate the strong support in the DC community for Capitol Hemp which regularly showcases undiscovered artists and designers, gallery openings and special events.

The Anniversary concert will demonstrate Capitol Hemp’s deep committed to Washington, DC’s musicians, artists and activists. “We’ve assembled an all star line-up of some of DC’s most exciting musical artists,” says Adam Eidinger. Doors open at 8pm, the show begins at 9pm and its an all ages event. Tickets are only $10

Eight piece reggae band SEE-I is going to get the revellers dancing with their unique blend of soul, funk and 70’s dancehall grooves. Featuring 6 members of Thievery Corporation, SEE-I really is a “Homegrown” super band! Nationally touring act FORT KNOX FIVE is bringing their 5 piece live band with vocals by DC rapper ASHERU of Boondocks theme song fame. FORT KNOX FIVE is debuting this live show for the DC massive before they are off on the festival circuit for the summer. Rounding out the bill are DC’s rudeboys of funk NAPPY RIDDEM. The two Rastars themselves, REX RIDDEM & MUSTAFA AKBAR are brining their live show to the party. This is a concert not to miss, and a celebration to remember.

“Dear PoP,

A man (approx 50s, toothless) in a baseball cap in a bright blue two-door hatchback tried to get me into his car on 6th and D Streets, NW across from Au Bon Pain as I left Woolly Mammoth Theatre at 9:15pm (Sunday evening). 911 would not help me report it to the police – as I had to be in DC to make the report – I basically left as fast as I could, got in my car, and drove off.”

Everybody remember to keep you guard up.

“Dear PoP,

Can you get any dirt as to what happened at the JJ/XX show last night at 6th and I Synagogue? I was at the 8pm show, and JJ is a two person band, but only one girl got up on stage, pushed play on her CD, and sang on top of it/over it. It was really weird karaoke style. Then the guy got up on stage and interrupted her song with a bear hug, then picked up a guitar and played 2 chords, and then they both walked off the stage. The performers were totally cracked out and it was the lousiest performance ever, but I can’t figure out how they get away with this. The audience (myself included) were literally cracking up in laughter at how ridiculous it was. She also set up a slideshow pointed at the side of her head so no one could see it. It sounds too ludicrous to be true but…

Anyway, XX was awesome, but I think the entire audience left wondering if it was all a big joke rather than a legitimate band.”

Bizarre. I’ve emailed the promoters from 6th and I but I think they have the day off for Passover. So did any other readers attend this show Sunday night? What’s the scoop?

Wow, there is a crazy real estate piece in this week’s Northwest Current (click on No. 10 to download a PDF copy). They write:

“The residential portion of the building at 475 H St. is offered for $2,495,000. The commercial property is listed for $1,295,000; together, the two are available for $3,750,000. For details, contact Jonathan Taylor of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty at 202-276-3344 or [email protected].”

Do you think this is just to become the landlord? I’m guessing that the coffee shop has signed a multi-year lease? Anyone know?

We took a look at Chinatown Coffee Co. this summer.

I think I’ve mentioned that the National Portrait Gallery (also housing the Smithsonian American Art Museum) is one of my favorite places in DC (located at 8th and F Streets, NW). I’m embarrassed to admit that I’d never actually checked out the awesome courtyard before. I don’t know how I’ve managed to walk around it every time… Anyway, it’s freaking awesome. Their Web site says:

“The enclosed courtyard with its elegant glass canopy designed by world–renowned architects Foster + Partners provides a distinctive, contemporary accent to the museums’ Greek Revival building. Foster + Partners was assisted by internationally acclaimed landscape designer Kathryn Gustafson of Seattle–based Gustafson Guthrie Nichol Ltd. in the creation of the courtyard’s interior design, with a variety of trees and plantings, as well as a unique water feature.”

You can read more about it here (though at present there was no water feature). More photos after the jump. (more…)
