Crazy Aunt Helen’s opens tomorrow (Wednesday) on Barracks Row

“Crazy Aunt Helen’s is bringing American Comfort Food prepared with locally sourced, seasonal ingredients (and love) to the Barracks Row section of Capitol Hill. This is the first solo project from DC restaurant vet Shane Mayson, who aims for a homey, eclectic vibe with Southern flair. Miss Pixie Windsor of 14th Street’s home furnishings store Miss Pixie’s designed the restaurant, complete with vibrant colors, repurposed materials and mix and match plates and funky coffee mugs. The two story restaurant seats 76 on the first floor, including 26 at the bar, as well as 53 seats upstairs. The outdoor patio can accommodate 12, with an additional 12 seats in the Streetery. “Dear PoPville,

There’s been an abandoned car sitting on Virginia Ave SE between 6th and 7th street. There’s no parking along this stretch but there are three lanes of active traffic, one of which this car is blocking. It’s been there for at least two weeks. It had a ticket written right away but nothing has been done about it. (more…)

Capitol Fencing “removal will start as soon as tomorrow and is expected to take three days.”

“Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today celebrated the announcement that the fencing around the Capitol Building grounds, erected after the January 6th attack on the Capitol, will be removed. The removal will start as soon as tomorrow and is expected to take three days. Norton has long worked to remove the fencing at the Capitol complex, both for its symbolism against open and democratic government and to restore access to roads and walkways for D.C. residents, emergency services, mail delivery, and local businesses. She also introduced a bill to prohibit federal funding from being used to install permanent fencing at the Capitol complex. (more…)

We’ve been waiting for repairs on the Dupont Circle and Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park fountains for ages, so this is a sight for dry eyes from James:

“The beautiful Senate Fountain is refurbished and running!”

About that big police response and helicopter on Capitol Hill earlier “suspect then went victim’s vehicle and drove it to 5th and G Streets SE where the vehicle’s controls proved too cumbersome”

“1D officers and detectives are currently on the scene investigating a Robbery that occurred today at about 2:15 PM where a vehicle was taken in the 500 block of G St SE. The suspect approached the victim and demanded his car keys. The suspect then went to the victim’s vehicle and drove it to the intersection of 5th and G Streets SE where the vehicle’s controls proved too cumbersome and the suspect fled. A significant patrol response with support from our police helicopter and an observant citizen led to the apprehension of the offender. (more…)
