Last month we noted progress at the renovations in the former Capital City Subs space located next to the future District Doughnut on Barracks Row. They reopened as Caffe Kimchi a couple weeks ago and they could possibly have the greatest omelette in town:

I love kimchi and I love bacon so I’m super intrigued. Anyone try them out yet?

“Dear PoPville,

I passed the previous 18th Amendment space on my way to work today and have been checking everyday to see what I could make of the next business to take over. There are clearly many kegs visible in the front window. From what I can see of the bar inside it has a wooden interior similar to a barrel. All the permits and such are in the window and it’ll just be a matter of time before Barrel opens for business.”

Back in November Capitol Hill Corner reported:

“The new liquor venue would be “more upscale” than the previous occupant, with “better food” prepared by a chef from Charleston, South Carolina. According to the spokesman, the new bar will serve 18 draft beers, and the interior is being redone to restore the brick and to bring in “classy lighting.”

and CityPaper reported:

“A new Southern-themed bourbon and craft beer bar called Barrel is on its way to Capitol Hill from one of the owners of Union Pub and 201 Bar.”

Good news for fellow cheese fans – Sona Creamery has now opened near Eastern Market. Upon entering the shop I experienced what I imagine heaven smells like. The place looks cool too (table seating not pictured to the left of photo):

@bryan_in_dc tweets us the photo above:

“Cosi now closed on Capitol Hill (3rd & Penn SE)”

Back in August we learned that a Pret a Manger would be taking over the space this spring:

“Pret A Manger will occupy 4,300 square feet and offer two floors of indoor dining space, as well as a large outdoor patio.”

“Dear PoPville,

I got on at Eastern Market, a few minutes after 11 am on Monday morning, 2/3/2014, at my usual door (last door, second to last car) to expedite my travels upon my arrival at my destination. The car was relatively empty and I locked eyes with a young, attractive, well-dressed man upon getting on the train. I noted the look in his eyes. I kept to myself, playing on my phone, until looking up to see what stop we were pulling into when I noticed him stroking himself out of his pants, with his d*ck pointed at me. I didn’t say anything, but I probably physically reacted. I got up and got off the metro since we’d just pulled into Federal Center SW. I tried to snap a photo of him through the window, but he never turned around.

I reported the incident to station manager who called ahead to get the train stopped at the next station. The station manager recommended I not sit in the back of the metro, but closer to the operator in the future, which I get is good advice, but I should be able to sit wherever on the metro and not be at risk. The Station Manager did call ahead to other stations to try to apprehend the perpetrator. I also made a statement to the police. I was disappointed to learn that there are no cameras on the metro cars. I saved Metro PD’s number [202-962-2121] in my phone for the future.

He was young (maybe 25ish), black, wearing a lumberjack, ear flap-style hat and a dark grey or blue wool jacket. He never said anything to me. He never reacted to my reaction to him. He never turned around to see what I was doing after I got off the metro.”

“Dear PoPville,

Any update on the British-American pub named “Alibi” that was to open on 2nd St NW in the old My Brothers’ Place spot?  It was supposed to open in December; I work right next door and it doesn’t look like anything has moved since you posted the article.  Any update would be great!  Thanks!”

The owner updates us:

“The cold weather set us back because we can’t do roof work when it’s below freezing. We have been organizing a new schedule to get the renovations done and it looks like we will be able to open just in time for St Patrick’s Day.”
