“Dear PoPville,

My name is Mathilde. Yesterday I lost my grandmother’s wedding ring. I am heartbroken because it was a memento from her: she passed 2 years ago.

The ring was on a chain that broke. I realized the chain had broken around 6:30pm in Brookland. The ring was not there anymore. I checked the 2 places I stopped at, and couldn’t find it, so I suspect the chain broke either when I walked from Rosslyn to Clarendon metro stations, on Wilson and Fairfax boulevards on Sunday 12/6 between about 3 and 5pm or when I took the metro from Brookland to Rosslyn (red line from Brookland CUA to Metro Center and then orange line from Metro Center to Rosslyn) from 2pm to 2:30 the same day. ”

Should anyone have happened to found a ring yesterday at the listed locations please email me at [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with OP. Thank you.

“Dear PoPville,

Writing to share a brief story of many good Samaritans I encountered on Sunday while on my bike in upper Brookland/North Michigan Park. I was riding in the neighborhood on my way to College Park when my bike basically broke down thanks to recurring tire issues I’ve been dealing with. I set up on a street corner in the grass trying to fix the problem for about 45 minutes (more…)

Around 10:30pm in Columbia Heights was definitely fireworks.

And another round later: “Special thanks to the person who just blasted fireworks directly next to my bedroom window at 2am in Columbia Heights”

And in a new one that I’ll add to the list of options comes this report from Alan Henney at 2:20am:

“The EXPLOSIONS heard about 20 minutes ago in University Heights are tires bursting on a carjacked SUV that was just torched at 7th St and Randolph St NE-DC.”

We received the first report at 10:09pm last night (Wednesday):

“Seriously, what’s with the explosion sounds (similar to a generator blowing) that we’ve heard several times in Fort Totten? The power has gone out several times again.”

“Same! We are without power near Fort Totten metro – two or three huge booms tonight. Same thing earlier this morning, but luckily power just flickered then.”

“The loud bangs are continuing. In the past the loud bangs came first, then we lost power. Tonight I only heard the bangs after we lost power. Intermittent sirens somewhere nearby.”

“It’s a transformer or some power line on 12th between Allison and Buchanen, it’s been exploding every couple days. Pepco was working on it earlier today after it happened, but just happened again minutes ago” (more…)

Thanks to Ashley for passing on this GoFundMe:

“My goal is to keep the Free Food Pantry stocked for one full year.

Hello! My name is Tri and when the pandemic forced my small business Hot Pink Photo Booth to temporary close, I decided to use my time and resources to try and help my local community!

It all started with a coat drive. My goal was to help ONE person who needed a coat, get a coat and stay a little warmer this winter. (more…)

Thanks to Nicole for passing on this GoFundMe:

“I met Barbara M. at my Free Food Pantry in Brookland NE, Washington, DC.

She was so over joyed to find that there’s a Free Food Pantry in her neighborhood that she started to tear up. I told her she can help her self and take whatever she needs.

She broke down and told me her story. I asked for her permission to do a recording so I can share and see if we can come together as a community to help Barbara from becoming homeless. (more…)
