I received the following email from a reader at 7:24pm:

“I know that you’ve been featuring Bloomingdale quite a bit lately, and I just wanted to let you know that something’s definitely happening at Windows Cafe (101 Rhode Island Ave NW) on Rhode Island. We were just on our way home and the street is blocked off with police tape, there are loads of cops there, and we did see someone on a gurney.

Windows is one of the best businesses in our neighborhood, and I sincerely hope the news isn’t as bad as it seemingly looks.”

I just got off the phone with a different neighbor in the area at 7:45pm. The neighbor tells me that the word on the street is that a Pepco employee may have been shot. An ambulance responded and left the scene. Streets remain closed around Windows and police (over 12 cars) are still on the scene. A neighbor heard one gunshot. In my talks it is not clear who if anyone was injured and/or how severely. I’ll update as more info becomes available from MPD.

I spoke to some folks from Bloomingdale this week who had some interesting scuttlebutt. First is the the decrepit storefront at the corner of 1st and Seaton has been purchased. The word on the street is that it is going to become a Chinese food spot. The question is whether it will be sit down or takeout. The neighbors I spoke with said they were really hoping it would be a sit down spot. Again this is just hearsay but the neighbors I spoke to had heard that someone put a bid on this same property to open a pizza spot but they were out bid. And they of course were not referring to Baraki to be located at the corner of 1st and T.

Folks have been anticipating Baraki’s opening since Aug. 2008. Some neighbors that I spoke to said that the owner was still dealing with financial issues. While some construction has begun it doesn’t look like they’ll be opening anytime soon.

You can find more info and photos here.

It’s no secret I’m a fan of the Bloomingdale neighborhood. This is one of the first condos that I’ve stumbled upon in the neighborhood. Do you think $324,000 sounds reasonable for this 2 bed/2 bath? Interestingly there is also a 1 bed/1 bath on a lower floor going $299,900. But I’m most interested in what you guys think of the 2 bed/2 bath.

Well, it’s no secret I’m a big fan of Seaton Place. You can see another GDoN from Seaton Pl from a few weeks ago. I have to admit I was blown away by these floors. I don’t know if it is because some of my own floors are so screwed up but these look amazing. Does $550,000 sound reasonable for this 4 bed/2.5 bath?

I had to do a double take when I walked by this tree. It was filled with weed whackers like some odd Landscaper Christmas tree. It was in the Bloomingdale neighborhood. Very odd…

“Dear PoP,

For a little historical context on the Bloomingdale flooding, I made a map. I placed the grid of streets over the 1861 Boschke Map and highlighted the streams in what is now Bloomingdale. A seam runs through the old map at the break in the streams. That effects accuracy, but it is pretty close. I was in a house at the northwest corner of Flagler and U and the owner said he could hear running water in the basement.”

Well this helps explain this scene a bit. Totally wild. Big props to the reader for making the map. Who knew?

“Dear PoP,

I don’t know if anybody outside the neighborhood has seen this, but there is some serious flooding happening on Rhode Island Ave NW, about ten to twenty feet before 1st St. in front of the dry cleaner’s. This picture is from yesterday, but when I walked outside today the puddle had overtaken the entire street. Cars were going through the water at less than 5mph, creating a bit of a traffic jam. Any idea if this is some sort of sewage/drainage problem? Or is this a normal occurrence in Bloomingdale?”

I’ve seen this scene in many neighborhoods around DC. I’m fairly certain it is caused by clogged sewage drains. You can report a problem here or just call 202-612-3400. Anyone else note some flooding around town?

I love Seaton Place in Bloomingdale, it seems like a very quiet block with beautiful homes. What do you think of this particular home? The “chef’s kitchen”? Does $614,777 seem reasonable for this 5 bed/3.5 bath?

Here’s a interesting rowhouse in Bloomingdale. There’s a similar one on T Street, NW if memory serves. Truth be told, I think I like the traditional ones a bit better.
