Some more renderings from the folks at Vision McMillan plus they also have an update on the DC Zoning Commission:

“The DC Zoning Commission will hold hearings on the McMillan Planned Unit Development (PUD) on May 1st, 5th, 8th and 13th should additional time be required. Each night, planning experts and members of the VMP team responsible for each facet of the project will provide testimony in support of the redevelopment. Community input is critical! Visit the May PUD Zoning Hearings event for details and to let us know when you will attend.”

You can check out some previous renderings here. The future McMillan Development will be located at the McMillan Sand Filtration Site at North Capitol and Michigan Ave, NW.

A reader send as an alert to others in the area:

“Two female Bloomingdale residents were walking home Saturday around six o’clock. When they were on North Capitol between Q and R, a black Ford Edge pulled up driven by a male driver. He asked if he could ask them a question which the females interpreted as him asking for directions. When they walked up the the vehicle the driver had his penis in his hand and asked “Do you think this is big?” The females quickly ran away and the driver sped off. They were unable to get the license plate of the Ford Edge.”

Don’t see too many like this in Bloomingdale – though they are more common in Ledroit Park. Very cool pair:

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to let all my neighbors know about the rash of package thefts my block has been experiencing. Late last year the 200 block of Florida Ave NW was hit with thefts of packages, but over the past few weeks- it seems like it is happening again. 3 out of the 4 units in my condo building have experienced package theft within the past few weeks of March. When I spoke with our neighborhood commissioner, she informed the MPD vice unit about the alleged thefts happening on our block. When the MPD spoke to me- they said that recently district 1 was hard hit with package thefts, and it seems that specific blocks have been targeted in the past. Please keep an eye out, and if you see something- say something!”

More good restaurant news for Bloomingdale – this time on Rhode Island Ave near Boundary Stone and Grassroots Bakery – from an email:

“Plans are moving forward with the space at 108 Rhode Island Avenue, NW. The application for a liquor license has been submitted, and placards are going up later today for El Camino, a full-service restaurant featuring traditional-style Mexican food with a variety of Latin cocktails, by the partners behind 1905 Bistro & Bar. Tony Lucca and Phil Rodriguez (also of Sticky Rice DC) hope to open the Bloomingdale restaurant later this summer.”

We first heard about plans for Pub and the People back in October:

“A neighborhood restaurant and bar with 70 seats indoors and a potential for up to 100 outdoors. The largest patio in the area will also provide a view of the U.S. Capitol Building (which will be nice, assuming it ever reopens). Indoors, the space will bring the atmosphere of DC’s early pubs and restaurants. Think exposed brick and wood, not suspenders.

We have recruited Chef Dan Dalcin, currently Sous Chef at the award-winning Black Salt in Palisades. Chef Dan’s menu will offer traditional American cuisine, and will draw influence from several other cuisine types: Southern, Southwestern, Seafood, Asian, and Vegetarian.”

And we saw some renderings later that month. And now they’ve applied for a liquor license:

“New Tavern serving high-quality American Fare with entertainment for special events, live music, karaoke and community speaking events. Total occupancy is 99. Sidewalk Café with seating for 125 patrons.”

Very much looking forward to this becoming a reality.
