“Songbyrd will take over Coconut Club’s former location on Penn Street NE and will continue to host the eclectic lineup of up-and-coming acts that drew longtime patrons to Adams Morgan for the past six years. The exact date of its grand opening in Northeast is still to be determined, but in the meantime, Edmonson and Lapan will reopen Songbyrd’s original location on Aug. 16.”

“Dear PoPville,

I live next door to 2920 Ontario Rd. It is an abandoned building in Lanier Heights. As another anecdote in the blighted building saga of DC, 2920 Ontario Rd. started to collapse last night. We heard and felt several large booms during the thunderstorm that were louder than normal thunder. Our building even shook a little bit. Some neighbors went outside to inspect and we discovered 2920 Ontario had collapsed in on itself and some debris fell into the alley. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I saw there was a story on Harpeth Swill closing, do you have any idea what is replacing it? Lots of plants outside that seem new, and a new name “Coin Des Poetes?”

The “poets corner” almost reminds me a bit of the old sarcastic murals from Shaw (Slum Historique) at 9th and Q and Rhode Island, NW. Here’s a photo I took of that from 2008 since completely renovated: (more…)
