Ed. Note: Apparently we’re starting the saddest new series: ‘Let’s Show Some Extra Love to Businesses after they’ve been robbed/had their doors smashed’ after Bold Forks was smashed yesterday. Thanks to Nana and all others who messaged the sad/frustrating news from D Light this morning:

“wanted to update that looks like D Light Cafe, a super cute and delicious spot run by Ukrainians, was robbed last night. Their door glass was smashed and their point of sale system was stolen. (more…)

From a press release:

“Sibling duo Carla and Juan Sanchez reintroduce Washington D.C. to their Bolivian heritage with Casa Kantuta, a pop-up bar inspired by their upbringing in the Bolivian capital city of La Paz. After two extremely successful limited pop-up runs, the groundbreaking concept comes back to Washington’s iconic Adams Morgan corridor.

Casa Kantuta is a cultural immersive experience inspired by the Bolivian way of life. It is the brainchild of the Sanchez duo, both of whom immigrated from Bolivia to the Washington D.C. area in the 1990s. Memories of salteñas, a Bolivian street food similar to empanadas, and vibrant celebrations back home collide with the cultural aspects of their formative years spent in the United States to make up this distinctive cocktail spot.

At the center of the Casa Kantuta experience is a menu of traditional Bolivian craft cocktails and drinks inspired by Bolivia and other countries in South America. The drinks are created by bar director, Lou Bernard, who is half Bolivian.

Hoy moly, thanks to Dominic for sending the action at DC’s first “French-Canadian Disco”:

Le Mont Royal. 10:10pm Friday night.
They must have been handing out Taylor Swift tickets.

There was a small line of maybe 10 people around 8:30pm and they were taking names and numbers. We were told it would be 45min. By 9:30pm it looked like this. We never got a call. A good crowd and good drinks at Grand Duchess met the moment.”

Check out the video to see how far the line stretches: (more…)
