The flier says:

“Best Deal Around! Bright spacious 1BR terrace level unit with private entrance. Freshly painted and shows beautifully. Hardwood floors and carpeting in BR. Steps to the exciting Adams Morgan nightlife, and a short walk across the bridge to the Metro! Location Location Location!”

More info found here and a mouse on house tour found here.

I’m interested to hear what you guys think about this one because I almost bought one of these terrace units in 2002. Interesting to note is that at that time the unit also sold for around $300k (I got way out bid). Obviously, this one is under contract so somebody think’s it a good deal but I’m wondering what you guys think. Do you like the private terrace? I never actually see folks on those terraces.   It was listing for $309,000. Sound reasonable?

“Dear PoP,

Was there on Sunday and the patio is indeed open now. (a little small, but nice all the same) The bottom floor will be open sometime soon – a guy was working on graffiti for the walls when we were there. But the newest news is that they are also working on getting the TOP floor open sometime in the future. Supposedly as a martini bar. Our bartender seemed to think the bottom floor would be more about music and dancing, middle about beer , and top about martinis (maybe a lounge?).

Sounds awesome is all I can say. Black Squirrel is hands down my favorite place in Adams Morgan and the owners and staff really give them a one up on the rest of the street. And all the amazing beer and food doesn’t hurt.”

Very cool news! Black Squirrel is located at 2427 18th Street, NW.

When a friend of mine told me about this I didn’t believe her. This is too good. I love that the name is Lightening. My friend writes:

“Lightning lives on Kalorama St and comes out to mosey up and down the street. This is the second time I’ve seen this around 6 or 7 pm on a Friday.”

Wow this spot at 2450 18th Street changes names/themes more than, um, more than, alright I can’t come up with anything but it changes names a lot. It was Morgan’s back in Feb. And of course when it was, briefly, True Story before that it kept changing signs. I’ve seriously never seen a place change names so frequently. I wonder if the ownership keeps changing as well. In any case, has anyone checked out “Draft Pix”? How does it rank as a sports bar?

“Dear PoP,

Do you have any information about what’s moving in on Columbia Road right next to the Safeway? All the surrounding stores went out of business at roughly the same time so I’m thinking maybe they’re putting some new megastore in there.”

I have received a number of emails asking about this. Back in April we learned that CVS will be taking over this spot. They will be closing their store across the street when this new spot opens. At the time Kristen Barden from Adams Morgan BID wrote me that:

“Combined Properties (www.combined.biz) is combining all of their stores along that stretch – Popeye’s, the beauty supply store, Citibank, etc… and the CVS on the south side of Columbia Road will move over there. I also don’t know what will go in the old CVS space yet…”

And of course construction has also begun on the Safeway which will stay open during renovations.

This looks like it could be fun. Allez les bleus! I was wondering why L’enfant Cafe had added a gigantic absolute bottle…

Anyone know of better celebrations?  More info on Adams Morgan Bastille celebrations after the jump. (more…)

Mixtec is located at 1792 Columbia Rd, NW in Adams Morgan. I always thought folks went here only if the Italian place (pasta mia) next door was too crowded. Now I see they got pretty good reviews on Yelp. So what’s the word? Any fans here?

Anyone know if there was a fire in Adams Morgan last night?  Was it possibly for the movie being filmed?

A reader writes:

“Any idea what all the firetrucks on 18th street were for last night around 9:45? They were rerouting buses up and down Belmont.”

“Dear PoP,

The previously discussed Argonne Cafe (http://www.princeofpetworth.com/2009/04/judging-cafes/)  seems to have disappeared, but in it’s place has sprung up Pica Taco.

Looks like they may have just opened today. Was told the menu is still a “rough draft” and would probably change some – but it includes various Tacos ($2.00 each) and Burritos ($4.50 to $6.50).  They also seem to have kept some of Argonne Cafe’s items – there’s a breakfast selection that looks kind of familiar.

Most interesting part – sounds like they may have Ceviche on the weekends. No word on price yet, but we were told to check back.

Hours run until 8pm weeknights according to the door, and they’re open all day Saturday.

Didn’t try the food, since we had just eaten, but I will admit to being kind of excited about this being around the corner from my front door.”

Very cool.  Anyone taste the Ceviche?  Anyone gonna miss Argonne Cafe?
