Update from Zenebech:

“We regret to inform you that our plans to reopen in July will be extended into August.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. We are pushing to have repairs completed as soon as possible.”

Zenebech has been closed since December when a fire gutted next door neighbor #1 Juicy-Cajun Seafood, damaging Zenebech.  Zenebech Injera had only recently reopened, after moving from Shaw, in August 2017. Updates when they get a firm reopening date.

Update: It’s definitely gonna be a sports bar. Word on the street is they’ll be open for the World Cup.

On the heels of Pitchers DC opening in the old Brass Monkey space comes word from the Adams Morgan Listserv that Habana Village has also become a sports bar:

“I went by Habana Village today and noticed there is a new sports bar there (something we badly need, of course). When did that happen?”

Habana Village’s Facebook wrote back in February:

“DEAR CUSTOMERS,
THE ESTABLISHMENT STILL UNDER RENOVATIONS AND WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL THE END OF JUNE, 2018.
WE APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT AND WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENT.
THE ADMINISTRATION”

Their website also still says: “DUE TO REMODELING THE ESTABLISHMENT WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL JUNE, 2018.”

Maybe they’ll temporarily be a sports bar for the World Cup and then return to regular Habana Village? Anyone hear what’s up?

For those not familiar – from their about us:

“Habana Village is a Cuban oasis located in the heart of Adams Morgan, one of the most Ethnically diverse neighborhood in the District of Columbia.

We offer an opportunity for patrons to experience the cuisine, art, music and dance of the rich culture that is Cuba.

“Our Mission is for all our guest have an unforgettable experience”

The best place in town for authentic meals, popular drinks, and amazing dance!
We hope to see you on the dance floor!”

This is truly another Adams Morgan ‘End of an Era’.

proposed moratorium zone via Google maps

At its regularly-scheduled monthly meeting June 6, Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 1C/Adams Morgan heard a proposal to move, expand, and modify its liquor license moratorium zone. The moratorium zone will expire on August 18, 2018, unless DC authorities take action to renew it.

After more than an hour’s discussion, the ANC voted unanimously to send the draft proposal back to its liquor-licensing affairs committee. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

My fiancee and I are looking for a rehearsal dinner spot that is close to The Line Hotel in Adams Morgan. We both have large families so the place needs to be able to accommodate up to 90 people. We’re looking for something a little bit more casual so 90 for a seated dinner isn’t a requirement. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We’ve talked to Southern Hospitality and Bourbon but they weren’t really what we wanted menu wise so open to others outside of those two.

Thanks!”

“Dear PoPville,

Someone stole my cherished cargo bike (Workcycles Kr8) from our garage behind Lanier Pl in Adams Morgan the night of Thursday, May 24. As you can see in the picture, it’s a funny looking wheelbarrow-bike hybrid version of the family van, so I’m hoping someone in the community will see it and alert me (202-556-0665) or the police. I do have Tiles on both the bike and the keys, and got an alert Sunday night that the one for my keys was spotted in DuPont, but by the time we got there, it was gone.
