It gives me no pleasure to pass on this scuttlebutt from a reader:

“Was talking to one of my favorite bartenders from Bourbon who said the place is closing. Adams Morgan Day (Sept. 9th) will be the final day. Saw the writing on the wall about two months ago with total change in nearly everything from staff to food. Place has been limping along.”

Oh man, this place used to be one of the best. Would be terrible if true. I’ve emailed Bourbon for comment and will update when/if I hear back from them.

“Dear PoPville,

I’m trying to get the word out about a hit and run that occurred early Sunday morning around 12:46 AM to see if anyone has any information. I was crossing Columbia Rd. at the intersection of Quarry Rd. from South to North (from the Federalist pig side to Quarry rd) with my dog Tiger Lily. There is a well marked crosswalk with three different signs reminding drivers that there is a crosswalk and that it is DC law to stop for pedestrians. We looked to the left and the car stopped, started to cross, and the car coming from 16th street seemed to be stopping, then didn’t. The car hit Tiger head on at about 20 mph, then hit the breaks and I was hit very slightly. She is a small 45 lb. dog and was propelled about 10 feet up and 15 feet out before hitting the ground on the other side of Quarry rd; the leash was ripped out of my hand on impact. Fortunately nothing was broken, but she was in so much shock that she took off in a sprint, making it across several more streets almost to Woodley park, where some fellow citizens caught her on the Calvert street bridge. Several Adams Morgan citizens jumped in to help and we had a small army of us chasing after to catch her. I am so thankful to those neighbors. (more…)

From a press release:

A reader reports:

“Meat-in-a-Box (between Jack Rose & The Blaguard) is now DC Pizza & Kabob (which seems to be substantially the same concept, but with a less interesting name). Not exactly sure when it happened but MIAB had been closed for a while.

Meat in a Box opened here back in 2013. Before them the previous tenant was Absolute Pizza Kabab. So we’ve come full circle (ish).

“Dear PoPville,

It strikes me as peculiar that this new apartment building called AdMo Heights describes itself as DISTINCTLY DC and uses a stock photo of New York City.

Link to stock photo.

You can clearly see that the street signs say Central Park West and West 65th Street.”

Ed. Note: Not to mention the fairly distinct NYC yellow taxi cabs.

“Dear PoPville,

I got a gift certificate for my husband to do one of those paint/wine activities at Uncork’d Art in Adams Morgan way back for Christmas. We didn’t get around to it immediately after the holidays, and then, since March it appears they have been remodeling and offering no classes in Adams Morgan and only very rarely classes in other locations. It’s now August and there has been no sign of progress–and no classes are being offered. (more…)
