“The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation (Cafritz Foundation), developers of the Fort Totten mixed-use development project Art Place, today announced that the lease has been executed for an approximately 40,000 square-foot 24 Hour Fitness club located at Art Place at Fort Totten. This will mark the first 24 Hour Fitness location in D.C. and sixth 24 Hour Fitness club in the Metro region, expanding on its successful footprint across Maryland and Northern Virginia. The 24 Hour Fitness is slated to open within the next few years. (more…)

Orange Theory Gym Coming to former 4P’s Space in Cleveland Park!!

Following word of Rumble likely opening their first D.C. space in April and an Orange Gym coming to 14th Street near Arepa Zone and Balance Gym comes news of another Orange Gym location – and this one in a long vacant space in Cleveland Park!! New Gym Opens in Mount Vernon Square

“I noticed at 506 K Street NW (Across from the Giant) in Mt. Vernon, there was new gym/training place opened called EPIC. I called and it is their grand opening this week and they’re offering $1 classes until 2/4/2019 when you register on their website (It’s the last option when you pick the class you want to attend)

Looks like a fun atmosphere for people who don’t enjoy regular gyms.”

Attorney General “Sues Washington Sports Club for Misleading District Consumers About Membership Cancellation Policies, Billing Practices, and Fees”

“Attorney General Karl A. Racine today filed a lawsuit against Town Sports International (TSI), LLC, the operators of Washington Sports Clubs, over its deceptive cancellation and billing practices. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) alleges that TSI is violating both consumer protection laws and a 2016 settlement agreement by misleading consumers about the terms of membership agreements, failing to inform them of the gym’s cancellation policies, and continuing to charge them even after they attempt to cancel their gym memberships, among other deceptive business practices. OAG is seeking to stop TSI’s illegal conduct, provide relief for consumers who were harmed, and impose civil penalties. (more…)

“We never expected the theft to occur from a classmate.”

“Dear PoPville,

This message is both a public service announcement/reminder and a plea from a fellow PoPville community member and yogi. A classmate and I had our wallets stolen tonight during an evening class at 405 Yoga Studio on Florida Ave NE. The three thieves were a bit suspicious from the start by the way they were acting. All three came late, weren’t able to pay up front for the class and had accounts set up with contact information in North Carolina (which we found out after class when the police looked into their registration). About ten minutes into class the three individuals left the class (told the front desk attendant something about not liking the class), gathered their belongings and left. Their belongings also included two wallets which were not theirs. The two of us discovered our wallets were missing promptly after the class ended when we noticed our purses were lighter and fraud alerts already on our phones from credit card companies. Both of us had charges placed at CVS locations in NW DC in the amounts of $495 – $500 (in total thousands of dollars) for what has been described as gift cards by the CVS police reports filed. One additional charge was attempted tonight from a different pharmacy in Oxon Hill Maryland. (more…)
