Honeycomb Grocery from Toki Underground’s Chef Erik Bruner-Yang opens in Union Market

“Chef Erik Bruner-Yang introduces a new local grocery, Honeycomb, located at Union Market in Washington, DC. Honeycomb’s offerings include locally sourced produce, homemade sauces and ferments such as nuoc cham, hoisin, kombucha, and kimchi, plus an array of Asian goodies not limited to snacks, candies, and condiments. Look for the beautiful Honeycomb packaging and sleek wooden storefront, located in the back of the market, to the left of Harvey’s.

Open Tuesday-Sunday
9am-8pm”

Bestworld (temporarily) closed in Mt. Pleasant for Food Code Violation

Thanks to all who have been sending emails and tweets – one reader writes:

“Uh oh. I went to the “Bestworld” in Mt. Pleasant the other day only to find it closed for health code violations. The sign below was posted on the door. I can’t say I’m too surprised. It’s not unusual to find rotting produce on their shelves, and their meat section smells like low tide. My wife and I have taken to calling it “Worstworld.” Any idea when they might reopen?”

Ed. Note: I had first heard of a closure last week but when I stopped by on Sunday they had already reopened so this seems like a second closure. I’ll update when they reopen but in similar cases it’s usually for a just a few days. We judged Bestworld (formerly Bestway) back in 2010.

“So I’m assuming this mean’s they’re not coming to the Books A Million space?”

Back in July we passed on some scuttlebutt about a Mrs. Greens Natural Food Store taking over the Books A Million off Dupont Circle. Thanks to a reader for sending word of the not so good news for Mrs. Green’s from Patch Fairfax:

“Mrs. Green’s will be closing its store in Fairfax on Sept. 13, according to a company employee; the store opened in January.

It also appears as though Vienna’s long wait to replace Magruders will continue. The hoped-for Mrs. Green’s Natural Market will not be opening a store in the location, at 180 Maple Ave. W, as was planned, according to a company employee.”

In the meantime, Books A Million remains open.

Giant Food at City Market at O wins Coveted Grocery Store Equivalent of an Oscar for Best Overall Design
