Another tenant from this week’s terrible fire at 11th and W St, NW could use some help. From the GoFundMe:

“Our wonderful nanny, Julia Ruiz, lost everything in a fire when her apartment went up in flames in the early morning of September 11. She and her family were fortunately unharmed, but she’s devastated to have lost her home and everything inside. In the year she’s been with us and caring for our daughter Madison, she’s become our family. We’d be so grateful for any assistance in getting her back on her feet.”

A GoFundMe was put together for the folks who suffered that terrible fire earlier this mroning.

Ed. Note: Cody used to be the GM at Nanny’s and I can vouch is one of the nicest guys in the world.

The GoFundMe says:

“My brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Cody and Emily, recently lost everything they own in a house fire. They had only moved in three weeks prior and were thrilled to have a great location, (more…)

1342 U Street, NW via Crushed Skate Shop

Crushed Skate Shop writes on their IG:

“Since starting Crushed in January 2020 right before the pandemic started, we’re no stranger to tough times and the pressure that comes along with it. With no stimulus help and starting the shop with almost nothing (If you were there you know) we have always tried our best to keep up with our immediate communities needs and beyond. This has been one of our biggest challenges especially being that we are the only skate shop here in Washington DC. We always believed in building together as a community and our goal has always been to create a sustainable, thriving environment for skateboarding in Washington DC and our surrounding areas. In these past 4 years we have been able to accomplish so much together in a short amount of time. Breaking down stereotypes, opening communication and increasing knowledge with folks outside of our skateboard community, hosting events to bring everyone together, bringing DC its first and very own Nike SB Dunk, encouraging skateboarding to help with mental health/stress/anxiety, fundraisers, protests, my absolute pleasure introducing/reintroducing new and returning people to skateboarding, and so much more. “Dear PoPville,

I don’t know if you’re familiar with HIPS, but we are an organization that has operated for 30 years in DC, providing services and support to people who are impacted by sex work and drug use. This summer, we have the opportunity to purchase the building that we currently operate out of, ensuring that we won’t be subject to continual rent hikes and the threats of having to relocate. We have launched a capital campaign to help us secure funds for a downpayment of our H Street building.” (more…)
