Update: “due to the impending weather, the new date is March 19th and tickets available here.”
From an email:
“During a time of turmoil and uncertainty for Washington DC’s vast immigrant population, Chef Christian Irabién of Amparo Fondita, and the nonprofit organization Ayuda, are hosting a fundraising dinner at Amparo Fondita on February 12th. The seated dinners will raise money to support Ayuda’s urgent work to provide legal, social, and language services for immigrants in the DMV.
Tickets for the 3 course meal are $150, and 50% of the proceeds will be donated to Ayuda. The menu is inspired by Irabién’s recent trip to Mayan Yucatán. Menu here:

The event is deeply aligned with Amparo Fondita’s mission: “To cultivate experiences, memories, and connections while empowering its immigrant workers, mainly composed of BIPOC women, and pushing for more sustainable ways of working that create direct positive impact on our current and future generation of restaurant workers. We aim to navigate this restaurant platform as a social enterprise not only within our restaurant walls, but also within our local community.”
Amparo Fondita is a modern Mexican restaurant and bar from Chef Christian Irabién, celebrating the rich culinary heritage of Mexico with a special focus on its coastal regions. Named after Irabién’s mother and grandmother, Amparo—which means “shelter” in Spanish—embodies warmth, tradition, and hospitality while embracing a contemporary approach to Mexican cuisine.
A standout in Washington, D.C.’s dining scene, Amparo Fondita earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2024, secured a coveted spot on Washingtonian’s 100 Very Best Restaurants in 2025, Washington Post’s Best New Restaurants 2024, and on The Eater 38, and saw Irabién named Rising Culinary Star of the Year at the RAMMYS in 2022.
