“Dear PoPville,

I am a teacher at Barnard Elementary in Petworth. As many are aware, a 9-year old boy was killed in the fire last weekend, which the Mayor has referred for investigation. We found out last week that the child was a student at our school. Our hearts are broken, and we are working as a school community to celebrate his impact and honor his life, especially as students return today. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

One of our members, Andres Correa, was hit by a car and seriously injured on Friday morning as he was crossing Georgia Ave making his way to a 6 am workout. A Northwestern student, Andres was staying in Howard University housing while participating in a summer internship program. Friday was the last day of his internship and rather than heading home on Saturday to get ready for his next semester at Northwestern, he’s been in critical care in the ICU and has already had two major surgeries. The GoFundMe is straight to the point:

“Lou had a really bad night, it landed him in the hospital because some shit heads were shit heads. He’s been out of work, and has hospital bills and normal bills to pay. Help is super appreciated. Also, we love him and he’s a pillar of the community. Throw money his way.”

“Dear PoPville,

I am writing to you because my housemates and I are in desperate need of some assistance. On July 4th, I came home and discovered our home had caught fire because one of our reckless and careless housemates was setting off illegal fireworks in front of our home. Myself and my other two roommates, who were not home at the time, have lost everything we own except the clothes on our backs and our fur babies. Unfortunately no one had renter’s insurance, so we are really going thru a difficult time.

Myself and the other two ladies all work in the hospitality industry here in DC and we are really hoping that you could help us. We have started a GoFundMe page to help collect donations so we can find a new place to live and purchase the essentials. (more…)
