Notable or not, I’m so saddened about the demise of twitter. Whenever an unexpected jet flies over, a car bursts into flames, a screeching noise we’ve never heard before… happens, our twitter community always has the answer. I am discouraged to say the least about the future there. I also use (@PoPville) Instagram and Facebook which can play a similar role but it’s just not quite the same. So given the current state of affairs – I’m wondering which social media, if any. you guys use most these days?

In this week’s PoPville Plus + I mentioned that this photo (above) would have been a good one to accompany the super controversial question from 2012: “Do You/Your Guests Take Off Your Shoes When You Enter Your Home?”

At any rate some folks were keen on me restarting the Friday Question of the Day (I started random ones back in 2008 when I ran out of new restaurant openings one day and thought it would be a fun filler.) Would you like to see it return too? Could be fun to revisit some and see how folks feel now as well as new topics too of course.

And what ARE you doing shoes-wise these days? :)

Margaret shared with us the other day: “RIP Potomac Yard Movie Theater” and it got me thinking about movies. So harking back to our ‘Friday* Question of the Day’ series from the before times – I’m just curious – what was the last movie you saw in an actual theater? The last one I saw was 1917 at the Uptown (RIP).

*I realize it’s Wednesday but we can all admit that everyday is the same day these days.

“Dear PoPville,

I’d love to know how people feel about the possibility of quarantine (like they have in Italy: restaurants & bars closed, football games with no spectators (creepy), public transportation closed or severely limited). Are people freaking out or ok with it? What would it be like for people with kids? Are they looking forward to it or is it like “oh shit”? Are introverts kind of ok with it because now they have an excuse to bail on all those things they don’t actually want to go to? How long until everyone hits “cabin fever” stage and starts thinking about all the ways they could murder their loved ones?

Also, I don’t work from home normally so we have a dog walker. If I am ordered to WFH, should I still pay to have my dog walked? I mean…it’s not my dog walker’s fault coronavirus hit DC and I’m not sure she has any other income. Ed. Note: We spoke about childcare/nanny payments here. Do people (white collar cube monkeys with the privilege of working from home) feel an obligation to support services they no longer need since they are home during the day? What does the PoPville community think?”

“Dear PoPville,

I have a friend living several states away who recently did something really nice for me.

I wanted to send them a quintessentially DC care package or gift basket without having to run all over town buying things individually.

That got me thinking, what would PoPville readers recommend? Does such a thing exist? If not, what would you include? VA and MD ideas also accepted!”

I wanted to follow up on yesterday’s announcement from the Mayor’s Office that “DC Health Department Confirms No Coronavirus Cases in DC” I saw many people resigned to the fact that it would still likely hit D.C. in some way at some point. No kidding around lots of good info on COVID-19 here. For those who feel it’s coming our way – are you doing any preparations? If so, what are you doing?

To the polls:

Yesterday Sonia tweeted “Torchy’s Tacos Can you please put a Torchy’s at 1800 M St NW in D.C.? I promise you, business would be good!”

I had never heard of Torchy’s but based on the replies people really really love them. So it’s time to play (and please do remember remember, playing is not mandatory if this ain’t your thing) what chain would you love to see in D.C.? You can see what folks pined for in 2015 here and in 2009 here. So who/what are you pining for today?

At first I just liked the contrast of the photo but since I’m seeing so many CBD stores popping up I thought it could make for an interesting chat. So does anyone use CBD? If so, how often do you take it? What do you use it for? In what form do you take it?
