Ed. Note: In fairness the news broke about a half hour ago but my power is out and then my hot spot died on me so I huffed to the DCPL. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, thank God for the public library!!

Last year’s peak bloom was March 17th.

From the National Park Service:

“You heard it here first! We’re predicting Cherry Blossom Peak Bloom to fall between March 28-31 this year. (more…)

Fear not, in this regard, the NPS has previously written:

“This type of cherry tree (Prunus subhirtella var. autumnalis) regularly displays pinkish white blossoms during warm periods in the fall & winter months. They’ll bloom again in the spring. See them now on the Washington Monument grounds.”

As for today’s temps hitting 80 degrees later, not sure how normal that is…

National Mall NPS with the good springtime news:

“Our cherry blossom experts are finalizing their projection for peak bloom dates. Next week (Thurs, 2/29), we’ll join our partners to share the big announcement, so everyone can begin their spring planning. Follow our social media accounts to get the news first!”

STAY TUNED.
