Ed. Note: In fairness the news broke about a half hour ago but my power is out and then my hot spot died on me so I huffed to the DCPL. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, thank God for the public library!!
Last year’s peak bloom was March 17th.
From the National Park Service:
“You heard it here first! We’re predicting Cherry Blossom Peak Bloom to fall between March 28-31 this year. Extraordinary warm or cool temperatures have resulted in Peak Bloom as early as March 15 (1990) and as late as April 18 (1958).
Peak Bloom is defined as the period of time when 70% of the Yoshino cherry blossoms -the most common variety- are open, creating gorgeous clouds of white & pink flowers floating around the Tidal Basin.”
