“Dear PoP

Last night, my roommates and I saw what appeared to be a fire on T Street across from Howard theater. I’m not sure if it was big, but at least three firetrucks and and several police cars responded. Have you heard anything from your readers about it? We were just curious because no one has covered the story this morning.”

Anyone witness or hear anything about this?

I was contacted by the writer behind 2bars3stars who wrote about his experience in the Harvard Hall Apartment fire Sunday night. He writes in his blog:

“It’s a little after 2 a.m. E. and I are sound asleep, then startled awake. Our neighbor, a close friend, is pounding on the front door of our Adams Morgan apartment, alerting us to a fire raging down the hall.”

In an email he writes that he’d like to:

“Uncover the facts of last night’s Adams Morgan apartment fire, in which no fire alarms were heard during the fire. Harvard Hall is a huge building, 7 floors. It was unbelievable to see so many people leaving the building a half hour after us, having slept through the blaze. The building manager manages lots of old buildings in Adams Morgan and, if HH is par for the course, a catastrophe is easy to imagine. If the fire had been on the scale of the mt. pleasant apartment fire last year, and the alarms failed, lots of people could’ve died.”

There was coverage of the fire in the City Paper and the Post.

Any readers out there residents of this Harvard Hall Apartments in Adams Morgan? Did you hear any fire alarms?

I couldn’t find a photo of Engine Co. 6 but props to them!

From a reader:

“I just wanted to give the firefighters of DC Engine Company 6 a much-needed shout out. My carbon monoxide detector started going off this morning, and my roommate and I called 311 after going outside. We were immediately and professionally transferred to 911, who sent a truck within 5 or 10 minutes. The firefighters were super-friendly and polite, and even got along great with the landlord’s two dogs. They had to call in another unit with a carbon monoxide detector, who also showed up promptly, and led the way into the apartment to test it. It turned out to be a false alarm, but the whole thing was handled really well by DCFD. They made what could have been a worrying occasion much easier and really helped out.”

Sometimes we take the good guys for granted.

From ALERTDC:

If anyone is in the area please send some photos to [email protected]

updated: From a reader (photo above):

“From my office window on 14th Street taken 3:30 this afternoon. The building next door caught on fire for the 4th time in about a month. It’s the Perseus development project at the old Bowen YMCA; people keep breaking in and setting fires.”
