“Around 10 am this morning I heard some pops, saw this fire burning underneath 395 outside of the Capitol South Whole Foods. Our homeless neighbors live under there. Praying no one was in the vicinity when the fire started. Authorities/fire department on scene”

Update from DC Fire and EMS: “#DCsBravest responded to an outside fire in the 100 block of H St SE that has been extinguished. There were no injuries. This accounts for smoke that many have seen.”

“Update outside fire 100 block of H St SE. Fire involved a homeless tent beneath freeway. #DCsBravest quickly extinguished fire. Occupant indicated she was using propane, which may explain report of “explosion”. 1 individual with non life threatening injury.”

Reaching out for some assistance from the wider community in helping a family in my neighborhood who lost their home recently due to a house fire.

The house was home to three generations, with kids in the local DC Public Schools, and loving care provided by their grandmother. They lost all their personal belongings, and even gifts from Christmas. They are staying with relatives in the area until more resources are available. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

These people rented an Airbnb next to my building and threw a birthday party with at least a dozen people not social distancing. Super loud.

But that’s not all. They actually lit a damn firepit on a wooden balcony and pushed it into the corner to allow more people outside…moving the flames directly against the wooden bannisters and under the wooden stairs!!!

People on surrounding balconies were telling them to put it out and a drunk girl just kept yelling (without a mask on) “ok Karen! Ok Karen! Ok Karen! Have a good night Karen!”

The fire dept came and made them put it out…and the same girl started yelling AT THE FIREMEN, “you’re ruining my birthday!! Thanks for ruining my birthday!!” She then proceeded to scream obscenities at random balconies. (more…)
