I’ve been getting a lot of requests to post about this one next to Shaw’s Tavern at 6th and Florida Ave, NW. We checked ’em out back in October and learned a building permit revealed it will be a 7 unit building by a company called The Ella, LLC.  Not to be mistaken with this Ella.

Thanks to a reader for sending this info from a website called Hotel Chatter:

The Line Hotel in LA’s Koreatown neighborhood only just opened on January 1st but already there’s a spin-off hotel in the works. According to The Line’s developer, The Sydell Group, another Line Hotel is being developed in Washington, DC in the Adams Morgan neighborhood. It will be called The Line DC.”

From The Sydell Group:

“Sydell Group Ltd will be developing a new, full service hotel located at 1780 Columbia Road NW, Washington DC in the Adams Morgan neighborhood – an area long respected for its diversity, rich culture, and personality. The project consists of a newly constructed building, the restoration of a historic church, the creation of dynamic public spaces, and a high quality restaurant experience designed to serve both neighborhood residents and hotel guests alike.”

You can read more about the LA Hotel here. Sounds promising for Adams Morgan!

It’s been a long time coming but the last signs of the Clement’s Pastry Shop are now gone from the 1300 block of G Street, NW.

In April Washington Business Journal reported:

“The Cafesjian Family Foundation of Minneapolis has submitted a request to raze 1338, 1340 and 1342 G St. NW, all of which back up to the historic but vacant National Bank of Washington building at 14th and G, which it also owns.”

It’s important to note the article’s author, Michael Neibauer, concludes:

“The 50,000-square-foot museum complex is in limbo, and based on a brief conversation I had with a museum representative, I’m less confident than ever that a museum will open in the bank building on 14th Street, two blocks from the White House.

The raze, as I understand it, has little to do with the museum. More likely, it is related to the District’s attempted “blight” classification, which would come with with a property tax rate six times the standard commercial rate. Get rid of the building, get rid of the tax bill.”

You can read about plans for the Armenian Genocide Museum here.

Demo starts on the 1300 block of G Street, NW:

“Dear PoPville,

Many owners at The Iowa Condominium are not happy about Holladay Corporation’s plans for new condos on the 13th Street lots currently occupied by Mr. Wash and Jerry Chan’s Carry Out (see Dupont Current 11/13/13 article – p. 12). Holladay’s plans will negatively impact the quality of life for Iowa residents as they include constructing a 60-foot high wall that’s 23 feet away from the back of Iowa Condo townhouses. This 60-foot high wall will block direct sunlight from the units on the south side of the Iowa as well as a large portion of the unique Iowa Condo courtyard / fountain area. When an Iowa condo owner spoke with a representative at Holladay about the wall height/closeness, loss of sunlight and privacy concerns, the response included “that’s part of living in the city”. Finally, the proposed 67 condo units will bring more cars and fewer parking options to a neighborhood where parking is already at a premium.

Many Iowa Condo owners would like a lower building height with more of a Blagden Alley/Naylor Court feel to better fit in with this uniquely configured block. There is also strong interest in replacing the existing alley between the Iowa and proposed new condos with a “green alley” (with no vehicle traffic) per the following link: http://greengaragedetroit.com/index.php?title=Green_alley.

It appears that Holladay is not interested in Logan Circle community feedback based on their lack of contact with the LCCA, the ANC and Jack Evans’ office to date. We hope by getting info about Holladay’s current condo plans out to community, we might be able to incent them to work with residents to create a neighborhood asset.”

In late October we looked at some cool rendering for the planned future McMillan Development at the McMillan Sand Filtration Site at North Capitol and Michigan Ave, NW. At that time we were told they were hoping to get “shovels in the ground by summer 2014 and deliver the first buildings in 2016.” You can read more about the plans here. In the meantime check out some more renderings I hadn’t seen from Envision McMillan:

Here’s a rendering from Perseus Realty who add:

“1728 14th Street is a 35,000 square foot mixed use office and retail project located in the heart of Washington’s cultural epicenter, the 14th St corridor. Perseus Realty partnered with Ogden Capital to acquire an existing warehouse and adaptively reuse it to meet growing demand for goods and services retail and boutique office space in this corridor. The current design anticipates the first two floors as retail space with two floors of office space above. Construction is scheduled to begin by the first quarter of 2013 and will be completed by the first quarter of 2014.”

Construction started almost exactly a year ago on Takoma Central:

“These brand new apartments are conveniently located amongst the independent shops and restaurants of Takoma Park and minutes away from the bustling shopping and dining destination of downtown Silver Spring, MD. The building is tailored to complement the unique architecture of the neighborhood, with a five-story Victorian-style warehouse design connected by a glass “hyphen” to a contemporary, four-story brick and stone building in the Art Deco style.”

This is the same building where a Busboys and Poets is coming.
